Horizontal Elaboration We began by visiting the African Area. We saw groups of elephants with large flapping ears. There were giraffes with long slender necks eating from the tree tops. When we saw the zebras I was amazed at how their striped fur made them look like inmates.

Vertical Elaboration

Later on we got to see the reptiles. My favorite was the giant python. He was as long as three cars and as big around as a fire hydrant. We watched as he slowly slithered up a tree.

After a while we moved on to the bird aviary. The most impressive bird that I saw was a peacock that spread his colorful tail into a giant fan. Parrots perched on trees squawked at us as we passed their cages. There were tiny birds there like the humming birds and giant emus that were taller than our teacher.Later on we got to see the reptiles. My favorite was the giant python. He was as long as three cars and as big around as a fire hydrant. We watched as he slowly slithered up a tree. When the teacher said it was time to go I could hardly believe that we had been there five hours. Fourth/Fifth Grade Mini LessonI went to Canada with my family.

First wewent to the glass museum. Three hourslater we went to Buffalo. We spent the night there. The next day we went to Niagara Falls. We rode the boat that went near the falls. I was scared because the boat went so close to the falls that I got wet. We drove to Niagara-on-the-Lake and we went to a souvenir shop and we slept in a hotel.

If the dinosaurs came back they could carry my Daddy to work and back.Every morning at 7:30 Daddy would grab his suitcase and stand on the curb to wait. When the dinosaur arrived, Daddy would climb up its tail and take his place on the dinosaur’s neck. As the dinosaur trudged away, Daddy would wave to his friends passing by in their cars.
