WG1: The basic dataset (for all resources)

Research question:

A number of resources relevant for assistive ICT have been identified: Products, Literature & References,

Projects, and Forums, Ideas & FAQs, and a list of basic descriptors have been added for each resource. Are

these resources adequate and are the descriptors for each resource adequate? If not, how can they be

improved?

Background:

ICT-AT products

ICT-AT products are understood as a range of hardware and software devices and programs that enable

people with physical and/or mental impairment to communicate. It also includes the communications

equipment through which people seek and access information including the Internet, email and video

conferencing.

Resources

The basic datasets for Products, Literature & References, Projects, and Forums, Ideas & FAQs derive from

the “Minimum Dataset” in the third ETNA Workshop. The resources are to be understood as means of

information on assistive ICT. Products as in the data now collected through EASTIN, Literature & References

being articles, books etc. on ICT, Projects being national or international projects on e.g. developing,

reviewing, or implementing knowledge on ICT, Ideas & FAQs being different means of user contact.

Descriptors

There are a set of proposed basic descriptors for each of the four resources or groups of resources. It is the

intention that the basic descriptors will be an “EASTIN standard” and must apply to any resource and

product group encompassed by EASTIN, not only to those falling within the ICT domain.

Method:

Discuss the adequateness of the identified resources. Are they all relevant? Do we need to include

other resources?

Discuss the adequateness of the proposed basic datasets for each resource. Are they all relevant? Do

we need to include other descriptors?

Which of the descriptors in the basic datasets must be mandatory? (Mandatory meaning that the

resource will not be published in EASTIN if the descriptor is not entered)

eAccess+ aims at establishing and systematically developing a cooperative platform for co-ordinating, supporting and improving the implementation of eAccessibility throughout Europe.

eAccess+ will analyse the state of the art and in particular the obstacles or missing links hindering a boarder uptake of eAccessibility. The network will first identify and consult all relevant stakeholder groups, analyse and discuss with them the state of the art, support stakeholders in working on key issues to foster eAccessibility and disseminate experiences and knowledge all over Europe. Finally a roadmap should help to find appropriate future actions to support eAccessibility.
