Be it coral conservation, fish identification, learning in-depth about whale sharks, or all of the above, the courses we offer are designed to give participants a real insight and understanding of what they are seeing in the oceans, and how they too can make a difference. Whether you plan to spend two months on the island or two days, WSORC has the perfect course for you…. For divers who have less than a week on the island – WSORC has a wide range of naturalist courses which can fit your schedule. The following five courses can be completed in about one day: Whale Shark Awareness Distinctive Specialty (125$)- The Whale Shark Awareness Distinctive aims to educate the diver and non diver alike about the largest fish on earth, as well as providing an up close and personal encounter! The course consists of an afternoon of presentations, videos and discussion with our staff biologist/PADI instructor. The next morning you and your class will leave on your own boat specifically for the purpose of finding, identifying and encountering Whale Sharks. You will be involved in the process of tagging, photographing and conducting behavioral research. Every trip is approached from a scientific perspective, so expect to get educated…. and wet! You will be credited with one PADI specialty.

PADI Underwater Naturalist (99$) - This one day course is an introduction to the underwater

world and includes two dives and theory session. You will be credited with one PADI specialty.

Fish Identification (99$) - This one day course is an introduction to the fish common on the

reefs adjacent to Utila. It includes two dives and a theory session. You will be credited with

one PADI specialty. Additional materials required include a waterproof pocket guide to the

reef fish of the Caribbean (10$).

Coral Identification (99$) - This one day course is an introduction to the fish common on the

reefs adjacent to Utila. It includes two dives and a theory session. You will be credited with

one PADI specialty. Additional materials required include a waterproof pocket guide to the reef

creatures of the Caribbean (10$).

Coral reef Conservation (99$) - This one day course is an introduction to coral reef

conservation. There are no dives with this course, only the theory session. You will be

credited with one PADI specialty.

For the diver who has at least one week on the island, the Advanced Naturalist Course

is perfect for you. Five days and ten dives will earn you this certification which includes five

PADI Specialty ratings. The Advanced Naturalist course includes the content of both the Coral

and Fish Identification programs, as well as the Coral Reef Conservation, Project Aware, and

Underwater Naturalist into a single package held over five days. The cost of the course is

450$.
