The Whale Shark & Oceanic Research Center (WSORC) offers a full range of PADI
Marine Naturalist Courses
At WSORC, we are enthusiastic about marine life and love to be given the opportunity to teach
others about the wonders of the undersea world. Be it coral conservation, fish identification,
learning in-depth about whale sharks, or all of the above, the courses we offer are designed to
give participants a real insight and understanding of what they are seeing in the oceans, and
how they too can make a difference. Whether you plan to spend two months on the island or
two days, WSORC has the perfect course for you….
For divers who have less than a week on the island – WSORC has a wide range of naturalist
courses which can fit your schedule. The following five courses can be completed in about one
day:
Whale Shark Awareness Distinctive Specialty (125$)- The Whale Shark Awareness
Distinctive aims to educate the diver and non diver alike about the largest fish on earth, as well
as providing an up close and personal encounter! The course consists of an afternoon of
presentations, videos and discussion with our staff biologist/PADI instructor. The next morning
you and your class will leave on your own boat specifically for the purpose of finding,
identifying and encountering Whale Sharks. You will be involved in the process of tagging,
photographing and conducting behavioral research. Every trip is approached from a scientific
perspective, so expect to get educated…. and wet! You will be credited with one PADI
specialty.
