It was a “foretaste,” meant to tell the astonished disciples to set their hearts on what really matters: their relationship with God, their filial conversation with Him. Such is also the lesson for us as we reflect on the transfiguration of Jesus while he was at prayer. If we understand this point clearly, prayer will never be “boring” or “routine” or a monotonous “monologue.” It may happen that we, too, find ourselves praying fervently, crying our hearts out, apparently to no effect, for God seems not to be listening. In such situations the temptation is great to conclude that God does not care anymore about us but we know that God is always there. He is always listening even when we can’t see Him or hear His voice there and then. His answer will come at the proper time in His time which is always the best time. Weak and wounded in many ways, we fix our gaze on the transfigured Christ, to derive from him the inspiration we need to undertake or continue our quest for the values of the Kingdom and the splendour of a holy life. Let us always remember that Jesus was transfigured while he was praying. It was in his dialogue with the Father that the glory of his true self was revealed. Let us therefore imitate Him. Prayer meant so much to Jesus. It was an essential dimension of his life. The Gospels contain numerous references to Jesus’

BEQUEST/WILL TO OUR PARISH Think about it: Making a “Will or Bequest” to our Holy Spirit Parish of City Beach can be enormously satisfying. It provides a rare opportunity to review your life and to look at your most cherished relationships. The Catholic Church has been present at most of the important milestones in your life: your Baptism, your First Communion, at times of great celebration and at times of great sad-ness. The work of the many ministries of the Catholic Church is every day far-reaching, life-giving, and life-saving. By leaving a gift to your church in your Will, you will leave a legacy of faith – a legacy to help ensure that the mission and pastoral outreach that has been important to you will continue both for today’s needs and for those of our children, our grandchildren and beyond. Thank you!

MASS READINGS 2nd Sunday of Lent Yr A

1st-Reading(Gen 12:1-4) The call of Abraham, the father of God’s people The Lord said to Abram, ‘Leave your country, your family and your father’s house, for the land I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name so famous that it will be used as a blessing. ‘I will bless those who bless you: I will curse those who slight you. All the tribes of the earth shall bless themselves by you.’ So Abram went as the Lord told him. THE WORD OF THE LORD! Responsorial-Psalm (Ps 32:4-5, 18-20, 22.v.22)

RESPONSE: Lord, let you mercy be on us, as we place our trust in

you. 1. The word of the Lord is faithful and all his works to be trusted. The Lord loves justice and right and fills the earth with his love. R/ 2. The Lord looks on those who revere him, on those who hope in his love, to rescue their souls from death, to keep them alive in famine. R/ 3. Our soul is waiting for the Lord. The Lord is our help and our shield. May your love be upon us, O Lord, as we place all our hope in you. R/ 2nd-Reading (Tim 1:8-10) God has saved us, and called us to be holy

With me, bear the hardships for the sake of the Good News, relying on the power of God who has saved us and called us to be holy – not because of anything we ourselves have done but for his own purpose and by his own grace. This grace had already been granted to us, in Christ Jesus, before the beginning of time, but it has only been revealed by the Appearing of our saviour Christ Jesus. He abolished death, and

he has proclaimed life and immortality through the Good News. THE WORD OF THE LORD! Gospel-Acclamation Glory and praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ! From the shining cloud the Father’s voice is heard: this is my beloved Son, hear him. Glory and praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ! Gospel (Matt 17:1-9) His face shone like the sun Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a high mountain where they could be alone. There in their presence he was transfigured: his face shone like the sun and his clothes became as white as the light. Suddenly Moses and Elijah appeared to them; they were talking with him. Then Peter spoke to Jesus. ‘Lord,’ he said ‘it is wonderful for us to be here; if you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.’ He was still speaking when suddenly a bright cloud covered them with shadow, and from the cloud there came a voice which said, ‘This is my Son, the Beloved; he enjoys my favour. Listen to him.’ When they heard this the disciples fell on their faces overcome with fear. But Jesus came up and touched them. ‘Stand up,’ he said ‘do not be afraid.’ And when they raised their eyes they saw no one but only Jesus. As they came down from the mountain Jesus gave them this order, ‘Tell no one about the vision until the Son of Man has risen from the dead.’ THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD! *********************************************************

TEMPORARY MASS CHANGES IN THE ARCHDIOCESE AS A RESULT OF NOVEL CORONAVIRUS

Holy Water is to be removed from stoups in all Churches and Chapels.

Offertory gifts are to be in closed vessels or, where this is not pos-sible, vessels should be appropriately covered.

The Sign of Peace is to be omitted at all Masses. The distribution of Holy Communion under both species is to

cease. The Precious Blood is not to be shared from the chalice at any

Masses and is reserved to the celebrant(s) only. Priests are to encourage communicants to receive the Sacred Host

in the hand, not on the tongue. All priests and extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion are to

wash their hands in soap and water, or are to use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser both immediately before and immediately after the distribution of Holy Communion.

Parishioners who feel unwell should not attend Mass, and are excused from their normal obligation.

Parishioners who feel they may be at risk of infection if they go to Mass should refrain from attending Mass and are ex-cused their normal obligation.

Priests and parishioners who attend Mass should practice good hygiene (cover mouths and noses when sneezing, cough-ing etc), refrain from touching their face or mouth, and refrain from shaking hands with others before or after Mass.
