Task 1 – Hong Kong Quiz!
• In groups of 3 you have 30 minutes to locate the answers to all of your questions.
• Use the maps to locate where the answers are. Some locations have QR codes – one person in your groups will need a QR Code reader on your phones!
• You will be deducted 5 points for being late! Remember to be respectful and quiet in school!

Task 2 – Identifying Famous Landmarks
1. Name the following places in Hong Kong – are they physical or human features? Where are they?
2. How could you use a symbol to show these features on your map?
3. Look at the examples of symbols on the next slide
Physical Features = something which has been made by nature
i.e. mountains
Human Features = are anything that has
been built by humans i.e. houses and roads

Task 3 – What should a good map have?
A basic map should have:
• Title – Tells you what the map is showing
• Key – Guide for what the map symbols mean
• Scale – Shows how large the map area is in real life
• North Point – Shows which way is North
• Co-ordinates – Helps you to locate points on a map
Task 4 – Symbols on a Map
1. Look at the following map symbols ->
2. Add symbols onto your tables for each of the 10 places in Hong Kong. You can use the example symbols here or create your own!
Task 5 – Using Co-ordinates
• To locate features on a map we use the map ‘co-ordinates’.
• To find a place, first look at the horizontal letters. Then look at the vertical numbers.
• ‘Go along the hallway and then up the stairs!’
