What does Jesus think about righteousness?

First, we are to be poor in spirit.

Second we are to mourn over the cause of this

poverty-our sins.

Third, we are to be meek before other people and let this season how we treat

them.

Matthew 5:6 “God blesses those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they

will be satisfied.

A strong desire

a driving pursuit

an inner passion

In simple terms righteousness is to be

right with God.

A righteousness was placed in your heart by God when you first believed on Jesus that

gave you a right relation with God AND created an inner desire to do the right thing.

Once this righteousness is implanted in someone who trusts Christ for salvation there is one of two things that will always happen:

Moses was called the meekest man of his day.

Abraham Joseph David

the outward righteousness will happen

OR the follower of Christ will be burdened because their

inner nature is telling them to do the right thing but they

are refusing.

This is a permanent part of the life of a disciple of Jesus.

Spurgeon

Luther

So we need to develop a “Do the right thing” mentality!

Big Question!

And how do we know what Jesus thinks is the

right thing?

Does this describe your approach to making

decisions?

And there may be another type of person here today.

Matthew 7:15-20

Matthew 5:22

A healthy appetite is a good sign that a person is well, but if a person loses his appetite

it is usually a sign that something is wrong.

This is also spiritually true.

“for they will be satisfied.”

Scriptures never teach that happiness is something that

should be sought DIRECTLY; it is always

something that results from seeking something else.

a by-product

We will definitely fail at being happy if we put happiness

before doing the right thing.

Let me give you some examples:

1) A lack of happiness comes when we don’t

commit time to serve others in Jesus name.

You were built to serve.

2) A lack of happiness comes when we don’t give

our finances to serve others in Jesus name.

You were built to give.

3) A lack of happiness comes when we don’t

commit our love to others in Jesus name.

You were built to love.

Colossians 3:1-4

Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above,

where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your

mind on the things above, not on the things that are on

earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with

Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, is revealed,

then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.
