CE Marking is the symbol as shown on the top of this page. The letters "CE" are the abbreviation of French phrase "Conformite Europeene" which literally"Conformite Europeene" which literally means "European Conformity". The term initially used was "EC Mark" and it was officially replaced by "CE Marking" in the Directive 93/68/EEC in 1993. "CE Marking" is now used in all EU official documents.

The CE Marking is the manufacturer's declaration, showing compliance with all applicable directives. For most all applicable directives. For most products sold in the EU, the use of theCE Marking and a Declaration of Conformity are mandatory.

Indicate a product's conformity with the "essential requirements" of the directives

Allow products to be "placed on the market“

Ensure the "free movement of goods

Allow the "withdrawal of nonconforming products" by customs and enforcement

The CE marking shall be affixed only by the manufacturer or his authorized representative.

The CE marking shall be affixed only to products to which its affixing is provided for by specific Community harmonization legislation, and shall not be affixed to any other product.

By placing the CE marking a manufacturer is declaring, on his sole responsibility, conformity with all of the legal requirements to CE marking.

The CE marking shall be the only marking which attests the conformity of the product with the applicable harmonization legislation providing for its affixing.

The affixing to a product of markings, signs or inscriptions which are likely to mislead third parties regarding the meaning or form of the CE marking shall be prohibited.

Member States shall ensure the correct implementation of the CE marking and take appropriate action in the event of improper use of the marking.

The CE symbol must be affixed on the equipment itself in such a manner that it cannot be easily removed. The minimum size is 5 mm. (0.2").

Only if your equipment is too small, or the usage of a sign is incompatible with the function of your equipment, may it be used on any accompanying documentation for identification.

A very similar CE marking has been alleged to stand for China Export that Chinese manufacturers apply it to their products
