Classcraft Student Guide
What is Classcraft?Classcraft is a program that turns our classroom into a video game! Each student will chose a type of character and will level that character up by gaining experience points. There are 3 types of characters to chose from. Your teacher will be the Gamemaster and will direct the gameplay during class. This is a way for each student to show how much they participate in class!
How will we use it in class?Classcraft will be how students earn their participation grade in this class. Each student will be required to earn a certain amount of experience points in order to earn a passing participation grade. Participation is a key part of a world language classroom, so Classcraft will help the students and the teacher track their participation throughout the course of the year.
How do you play?Students will be on teams of 3-4 classmates. Each team will discuss the types of avatars they want on their team. They will then sign up on the day the teacher introduces the site. Players have a choice of 3 classes of avatars: Healer, Warrior, and Mage. Students earn experience points (XP) in class as they participate and speak in French. XP reflects the participation of each student, whereas health points (HP) reflect student behavior. Students who misbehave or come to class unprepared will lose HP. If a student loses all their HP they will fall in battle. When a student falls in battle, they must roll the die of destiny and accept their fate. The student who falls in battle not only hurts him/herself, but his/her teammates also lose HP, so this is a collaborative game! Each student also has Action points (AP) which allows the player to use their special powers during class. See the character guides to see what types of powers each class can perform.
Rules/ExpectationsAll students must earn XP for their participation grade. If a student does not want to play the game, that is acceptable, but they are still required to earn the same amount of XP as the rest of the class.
All students who agree to play the game must play for the duration of the class (until French is over for the year).
Students cannot change groups once they have chosen.
Students cannot change character classes once they have chosen.
A student’s participation grade is dependent upon the number of XP they gain in class.
All HP taken from a student will done in class.
All XP will be rewarded after school. This might be done only 1 time a week.
