“Children learn in the context of their families and families are the primary influence on children’s learning and
development. Professionals too, play a role in advancing children’s learning and development. Professionals engage in
family-centred practice by respecting the pivotal role of families in children’s lives (Victorian Early Year Learning and
Development Framework 2009, p. 10).”

The Great Outdoors
Building resilience through the outdoor play space.
“Allowing children to have ongoing opportunities for risky
play in natural environments encourages resilience to grow
and develop (Davis, 2010).” It is through exploration in the
outdoor environment a child can learn to assess risk then
begin to understand their own limits and boundaries.
“Risky play in natural environments offers diverse and au-
thentic opportunities for a child to develop resilience, pro-
vides early learning opportunities about living sustainable
lives and promotes healthy physical development (Little &
Sandseter, 2012).”
