GENERAL MEETING
What is the PPS?• We are a student run organization for
graduate and undergraduate students interested in oil and gas.
• We comprise the UWO AAPG and CSPG student chapters, providing members with updates about grants and scholarships.
• We hold monthly events including talks, field trips, movie nights, etc.
• There is no fee to join, and most of the events are free to attend

Available Positions• Webmaster: – Responsible for keeping the website up to date
• Social Coordinator(s):– Responsible for planning and advertising events,
as well as addressing safety concerns for events– Can be a team
• Undergraduate Representative:– Responsible for bringing any undergraduate issues
to the executive committee and addressing any concerns undergraduates have

• Talks:– CSPG Lecturer - Offshore Drilling– AAPG Lecturer - Unconventional Resources
• Movie nights:– Documentaries and discussions • Gasland, FrackNation, etc.

Grants and Scholarships
• Glen Ruby Memorial Scholarship (undergrad)– Deadline: October 31, 2014
• $2000, $3000, $5000 prizes
• CSEG Foundation Scholarship (undergrad + grad)– Deadline: November 1, 2014– Need to be a CSEG member to apply
• $10.50 or can get CGG to sponsor your dues

• CSPG Visiting Lecturer Astrid Arts– “Girl’s Guide to the Oil Patch and Life as a
Petroleum Geologist”– Thursday November 6th 2014– 5:30-6:30 pm– Room 0153
Astrid Arts is a Senior Carbonate Geologist at Cenovus Energy and Finance Director for the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists. She is a native Albertan who moved to Calgary to pursue a career as a Petroleum Geologist. Astrid studied at the University of Alberta earning a BSc (Hons) in Geology and an MSc in Carbonate Sedimentology. After 8 years in industry, she took a 5 year leave to stay at home with her 2 boys. Astrid made the transition back to work 4 years ago. She truly understands the unique challenges women face in the Petroleum Industry as well as those of working mothers in balancing life and a rewarding career.
