What is the Push Forward?

Push Forward is a new facility based at the NTU City Site comprising a workshop, and a base for the University cycle hire scheme which allows staff and students at NTU to hire a bike at low cost, or have repairs done on their existing bikes.

Who can participate in the scheme / make use of the workshop?

Any current NTU student or staff member can participate. Just drop into the workshop during the opening hours, or contact us via the email or phone numbers on the contacts page

How much does it cost to hire a bike?

Hiring a bike costs £20 per term, or £35 for the whole academic year! You do need to pay a deposit of £60 when you hire the bike, which you get back when you return the bike to us in good condition

What about insurance?

It is your responsibility to take out insurance against theft. You could do this through your home or any other insurances

Where do I get a bike from?

Students and Staff at the City Campus can collect their bike from Push Forward, located in the SU building, during opening hours. Those of you at Clifton or Brackenhurst Campuses will be able to collect theirs from a designated location on campus after you hire.

How should I look after my hire bike?

You are responsible for the appropriate maintenance of your hire bike. You will lose some or all of your deposit if the bike is returned in an unsuitable state. Staff, facilities and our maintenance sessions at the Push Forward can help you look after your bike.

I’ve got my own bike – can you still repair it for me?

Yes we can. Repairs can be conducted by a professional mechanic at Push Forward, at a low cost. We only offer this service to staff and students, and ID must be produced when booking.

I’ve got my own bike – Can I repair it myself?

Yes you can – provided there’s a spare stand during opening hours just drop in and ask at the desk.

I’ve got my own bike – Can you teach me to repair it?

Yes we can – see our maintenance classes section.

I’m new to the city, can I get information about cycling in and around Nottingham from you?

You can indeed, we have a full suite of the latest cycle maps for Nottingham and the surrounding area. Anything we don't have, we can most likely get.

Where can I park my bike around NTU, and the city?

We have extensive cycle parking around all of our sites, plus maps and locations for the cycle parking areas across the city.

Bike Hire The NTU bike hire scheme is open to both students and staff. Bikes can be hired for either a term, or the full academic year.

Everyone pays a deposit of £60 which you get back provided the bike is returned in a satisfactory condition – see the check sheet to know what constitutes “satisfactory” – after that, the prices

are as follows

Academic Yearly hire = £35

One term hire = £20

Hire can be completed via the NTU online store. Full terms and conditions are displayed on the bike hire page.

The return dates are pretty easy to remember – it’s either the last day of the academic year (Usually the first week in June) or

the last day of the current term. Bikes can be collected and returned at Push Forward, on City Campus. If you are on Clifton

or Brackenhurst Campuses then we will arrange a collection place and date with you.

Returning your bike at Clifton – Just drop the bike into the SU offices, located opposite the Point. The staff will give you the

returns form to sign.

Returning your bike at Brackenhurst - Just lock it in the Bramley Compound and take the keys and lights to the staff behind

reception.

Cycle repair

Maintenance and general repairs can be conducted on staff and students’ own bikes during opening hours by a qualified mechanic. Either contact us via phone or email, or drop by

and enquire in person. You must be a student or staff member, and will be asked to show your staff or student ID

when making a booking

Our rates are very competitive, and all proceeds are directly reinvested towards improving cycling at NTU. The primary aim is to help keep staff and student commuter bikes on the road

and to make cycling a viable and cost effective mode of transport to NTU.

Drop in sessions – During opening hours, provided there is a stand free, staff and students will be able to drop in and work on their own bikes, with guidance from a qualified mechanic should it be needed, just sign in on entry, you might even get a brew whilst you work!

For Sale

We stock a range of basic componentry and accessories, including inner-tubes, puncture repair kits, lubricants, and d-locks. As always, these are only available to NTU students and staff and are very competitively priced. See the prices page for more information. We also sell a range of second hand cycles, at bargain prices expertly refurbished by our qualified mechanics!

Bike storage for students

A limited number of cycle racks are available for students to store their bikes during term time, within the Bike Factory. Access is via student card, and must be applied for via the contact email. It can take up-to 5 working days to get your card activated for the door. Please note that this is only available during term time, due to the volume of hire bikes we have on site during the holidays.

Cycle Training

Cycle training is available free of charge to NTU staff and students, and is provided by our friends at Ridewise . Head over to their site, and be sure to tell them you’re from NTU. All their instructors are fully qualified, and will base their sessions around your needs. Pop in and grab a leaflet or two, or head over to their website via the link above.*will accept pickled eggs

Parts and accessories Push Forward is not a bike shop, and as such we don't keep a large amount of stock – so please don't be grumpy if we don't

have that set of vintage 1957 Campagnolo friction shifters you’ve been after, or the software to adjust your brand spanking new

electronic gearing, though we can certainly put you in touch with someone who does!

However we do have a supply of parts and accessories designed to keep our students and staff on the road and safe, at an

affordable cost. Below is a list of some of the products we sell. Should we not have the part you need, we have a wealth of

experience and can help procure the required parts for you, then fit them when they arrive.
