Learning and knowledge rests in diversity of opinions.

Learning is a process of connecting specialized nodes or information sources.

Learning may reside in non-human appliances.

Capacity of know more is more critical than what is currently known.

Nurturing and maintaining connections is needed to facilitate continual learning.

Ability to see connections between fields, ideas, and concepts is a core skill.

Current (accurate, up-to-date knowledge) is the intent of all connectivist learning activities.

Decision-making is itself a learning process. Choosing what to learn and the meaning of incoming information is seen through the lens of a shifting reality. While there is a right answer now, it may be wrong tomorrow due to alterations in the information climate affecting the decision.

Collaborations

The ultimate goal for collaborative learning resides within the co-constructed knowledge as a result of learning. Upon sharing information among groups members and reaching a common ground, knowledge is constructed and later internalized at an individual level. Collaborative learning values the processes that took place during learning, which is before a specific learning outcome is achieved.

Essential Question

The first time I took an online course, it consisted of reading (a lot of reading) and writing (summary of the reading & a lot of writing). In addition, there were limited interaction with instructors and peers. One thing that didn’t change much was the use of technologies. I still utilities both computer and telephone (yes, telephone) to communicate with instructors and peers.

However, because of progress (evolution of social interactions and technologies), my online courses consist of not just reading and writing, but also watching videos, interacting face-to-face with instructors and peers, having discourses and collaborations with peers within similar fields of knowledge or connecting with other fields of knowledge. Besides the changes of social interactions, technologies have increasingly evolved that which there are more than one source/application/median that connects the social interactions.

To answer the question: The role of discourse, collaboration and technology is to assist in constructing new information and further develop existing knowledge of the learners.
