What is true love? Is It Valentine’s Day?What is true love? Is It Valentine’s Day?What is true love? Is It Valentine’s Day?What is true love? Is It Valentine’s Day? By now, you’re probably seeing Valentine’s Day promoted on television
and in stores. Many people call it the “holiday day of love.” Commercials and
advertisements encourage people to buy greeting cards, jewelry, flowers, or
heart shaped boxes of
candy to show their
love to those they care
about. But is Valen-
tine’s Day really the
“holiday day of love”?
The short answer is no.
Yahweh does not con-
done our participation
in pagan holidays. In
modern times, Valen-
tine’s Day is also a
money making ploy to
get people to spend money. We are made to feel guilty if we don’t buy the
people we love presents. But what does the Bible say about true love? Does
the Bible say that heart shaped boxes of candy really shows our love to peo-
ple? No! The absolute best way to show people love is to tell them that you
love them! And serving one another is also a good way. Being nice to one
another is also a way to express love. Of course there is nothing wrong with
giving gifts to one another, but the Bible mentions more important ways to
show love. Yahweh showed the ultimate example of true love when He sent
His Son Yahshua to die for our sins, so that we may be saved.
In closing, let’s read 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a (NIV), “Love is patient, love is
kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not
self seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does
not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts,
always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”
Do not fall into the trap of following
their [pagan] customs and worship-
ing their gods. Do not inquire about
their gods, saying, ‘How do these
nations worship their gods? I want
to follow their example.’ You must
not worship Yahweh your Elohim
the way the other nations worship
their gods, for they perform for their
gods every detestable act that Yah-
weh hates. They even burn their sons
and daughters as sacrifices to their
gods. So be careful to obey all the
commands I give you. You must not
add anything to them or subtract
anything from them!
