This summer Madison Coe a 14-year-old Texasgirl died after she was electrocuted while tryingto use her cell phone as she took a bath. Herfamily believes she either plugged her phone intoa bathroom outlet or grabbed the already-plugged-in device as she sat in the tub.

Madison’s family hopes their tragedy will bringawareness to the issue. Teens today practicallygrow up with cell phones in their hands. It is impor-tant to educate them about the serious dangersof electric shock when a plugged in phone comesinto contact with water.

JACKSON, Miss. – For many wheelchair users, getting outand about is a major problem. The solution? A transporta-tion service which provides vans outfitted for wheelchairusers. American Medical Response (AMR) is one of thosecompanies. While it is best known for ambulance service(which it provides in 20 Mississippi counties), AMR also offerstransportation in vans modified for wheelchair users.

AMR’s wheelchair vans pick up riders at their door (not atthe curb) and take them all the way to their destination(for example, into the doctor’s office not just outside thefront entrance). AMR’s vans run 8 am to 5 pm Mondaythrough Friday. Transports in AMR wheelchair vans cost$55 one-way and $95 round trip. Those rates are all-in-clusive if the trip begins and ends anywhere within Hinds,Madison and Rankin counties. There’s an additional feeif the trip begins or ends outside those counties. The driversfor AMR’s wheelchair vans are highly-experienced, well-trained and courteous. Each is certified in CPR and firstaid; some drivers are EMTs. AMR prefers at least 24 hours’notice for scheduling wheelchair van transports, but tripswith shorter notice can sometimes be arranged.

To request AMR’s wheelchair van service, call 601-982-7911.In emergencies, always dial 911.
