What thrillers have you seen or read? Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen, Today I would like to talk about thrillers which I have seen and read. This genre may not be classified as the most ambitious, but there are some works, that deserve the status of classic. The first thriller I have seen is “Rear window” directed by Alfred Hitchcock. He was a grand master in building suspense. There is something magnetic in the idea of an immobile and static man having influence on the action. Hitchcock’s convention of building suspense is intelligent, very logical and probable. What thrillers have you seen or read?

Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen,

Today I would like to talk about thrillers which I have seen and read. This genre may not be

classified as the most ambitious, but there are some works, that deserve the status of classic.

Personally, I haven’t been convinced to such movies, but after watching “Rear Window”, “Christine”

and reading “Rosemary’s Baby” I really apprechiate thrillers.

The first thriller I have seen is “Rear window” directed by Alfred Hitchcock. He was a grand

master in building suspense. There is something magnetic in the idea of an immobile and static man

having influence on the action. Hitchcock’s convention of building suspense is intelligent, very logical

and probable. This filming gave chance to return to the job to paralyzed James Stewart who played

the main role of Jeffries. Because of his broken leg, the photographer is immobile and he starts

spying his neighbours. He falls to the track and investigate the mystery of his neighbour sitting by the

window with binoculars. It’s so absorbing!

One of the most memorable movies is “Christine” by John Carpenter. I’m not an enthusiast

for Stephen King, but we should know some works which constitutes to the base of the genre.

“Christine” made a real impression on me. An idea when a car behaves like a woman is a little bit

shocking for me. Christine’s envy of a woman is treated seriously, not with it’s tongue. The car is

calling for devotion and love in an absolute and scary way. But don’t be afraid of red cars- it’s just a

movie.

Finally, I would like to talk about “Rosemary’s Baby”. I have read a book by Ira Levin and

watched a movie by Roman Polański. They are both a masterpiece! The story begins pleasantly-

Rosemary and Guy Woodhouse rent a flat in an old apartment house. They meet their neighbours-

friendly old marriage and start a closer acquaintance with them. I guess that everybody knows what

happened then. The movie keeps in suspense and gives a real pleasant during watching it. There is

also one fact worth mentioning- the film score by Krzysztof Komeda and the famous lullaby.

To sum up, there are many classical thrillers that we can watch and read, but if somebody

doesn’t like this genre, he or she should know the base which consist of the movies I mentioned.

There are obviously many other worth seeing and I will do it during the dark nights sitting alone at

home.
