• Similar to bleeding, swelling is also normal. To control swelling, apply an ice pack on the cheek in the area of surgery. Continue as needed for the next 36 hours.

• Have plenty of fluids and try to avoid hot liquids or foods. On the day of surgery, have soft foods and liquids.

DIET & ANTIBIOTICS

• To prevent infection, make sure you take the prescribed antibiotics as directed by your dentist.

• Keep physical activities to a minimum and resume normal activity when you feel comfortable.

CONTINUING MAINTENANCE

• Keep your lips moist by applying Vaseline.

• Make an appointment with a hygienist every six months.

• Avoid alcohol and smoking for two weeks.

• Avoid brushing the area with the surgical bandage and rinse your mouth with a good mouthwash.
