Cons: • No bathroom breaks.• No classroom communication.• Will often squirt you with water in the hallways if you’re misbehaving.

Strategy:Just try and get along.

Pros:• Thinks outside the box.• Times tests with a live hand grenade, just for fun.• Will make you laugh.Cons:• Unpredictable.• Might yell “Waffles!” in the middle of a lecture.• Might not remember your name.

Strategy:Get to know this teacher, and read between the lines.

The DreamerPros:• Will believe strongly in your potential• Is very approachable.• You’ll get to express yourself.Cons:• Might digress on the odd occasion.• Has high expectations of your interest in school.• Might not like you if you’re better at their skill than they are.

Strategy: Avoid the question: “So what have you done in your life?”

Mr./Ms. NicePros:• Very forgiving of your personality quirks• Lets you hand things in late, or never• Laughs when most teachers would quit.Cons:• Lets everyone get away with everything.• Expects you to be happy along with everybody else.• Could turn into a hybrid of disciplinarian/over caffeinated.

Strategy:Don’t take advantage of kindness.

The RobotPros:• Gets all your marking done within minutes.• Has perfectly planned lessons.• Is consistent in demeanor.Cons:• Speaks in monotone even if the school is on fire.• Does everything “by the book”.• Has no interest in talking to you or getting to know you in class.

Strategy:Do your work, go to class, listen, repeat.

The RookiePros:• Has lots of energy to plan fun lessons and sponsor your clubs.• Dreams of changing lives through the magic of books.• Highly endearing and cares about students.Cons:• Sets impossible goals.• Has no concept of reality / thinks he/she is above it.• Some students will purposely try to make him/her jaded .

Strategy:Defend him/her from the bullies.

The Nearly RetiredPros:• Can have a lot of knowledge about subject area.• Doesn’t take any flack from classroom miscreants.• Teaches you about a different era.• Makes you read things.Cons:• Has funny writing and weird expectations, like spelling.• Marks papers by throwing them down a stairwell. The ones at the top get an ‘a’.• Has an advent calendar counting down days until retirement.• Has odd opinions.

Strategy:Respect your elders.
