Harvesters Food Drive… Southcreek
Office Park will be hosting a virtual food drive this year
beginning October 27, 2014 and ending November 21, 2014.
To make it easier on Harvesters volunteers—as well as saving both time and
high fuel costs associated with delivering/collecting food barrels—Southcreek
will only be hosting a virtual food drive this year. That way, more dollars can
go directly to the purchase of food — instead of fuel for delivery trucks!
You can participate at http://southcreek.harvestersvfd.org/ —it’s fun and
easy to do! See attached flyer for more information. Thanks in advance to
everyone for helping us fight hunger in our communities!

Offers:
Halloween Trivia, Folklore & Creepy Tidbits: Did you know… Jack o’ Lanterns originated in Ireland where people placed candles in hollowed-out turnips to keep away spirits and ghosts on the
Samhain holiday.
Halloween was brought to North America by immigrants from Europe who would celebrate the harvest around a bonfire, share
ghost stories, sing, dance and tell fortunes.
Tootsie Rolls were the first wrapped penny candy in America.
Many people still believe that gargoyles were created by medieval architects and stone carvers to ward off evil spirits.
The common little brown bat of North America has the longest life span for a mammal its size, with a life span averaging 32
years.
The Ouija Board ended up outselling the game of Monopoly in its first full year at Salem. Over two million copies of the Ouija
Board were shipped.
Halloween is on October 31st, the last day of the Celtic calendar. It was originally a pagan holiday, honoring the dead. Hallow-
een was referred to as All Hallows Eve and dates back to over 2000 years ago.

DDI Realty Services, Inc. / Southcreek Office Park are teaming up with Harvesters – The Community
Food Network to host a virtual food drive from October 27 – November 21, 2014.
‘Hunger in our communities is often subtle. It’s a child who stuffs his pockets during
lunch at school so he has food to eat at home in the evening. It’s a parent who is –
ironically – overweight, because sugar and carbohydrate-laden foods are often the
least expensive at the local store. It’s a senior citizen who goes without food in order
to buy medicine, further jeopardizing already fragile health.’
Harvester’s agencies provide assistance to nearly 60,000 people every day – fully half of those are children
and the elderly.
HARVESTERS: The 2014 Southcreek Office Park Harvesters Virtual Food Drive will be up and running
October 27th through November 21, 2014. Our goal is to provide over 1,000 meals to help feed the hungry!
Please join us to help stamp out hunger this year!
Thank you for shopping via computer or mobile device at http://southcreek.harvestersvfd.org during this
food drive. Don’t forget to share this link with family and friends. Thanks in advance to everyone for helping
us fight hunger in our communities!
