BATHING ATTIRECELLULAR TELEPHONES

by Joan Birsh

This young man in his Ralph Lau-ren togs would not be welcome in most Ocean Reef restaurants. Gianni Ristorante, Islander, Reef Lounge, The Ocean Room, The Clubhouse require collared shirts and shorts of walking length. And for the ladies – equally appropri-ate attire.

Don’t even dream of wearing these jeans to an Ocean Reef restaurant. Only smart long denim jeans are allowed.

This gentleman is “good to go” to all but two of Ocean Reef’s restaurants. The Ocean Room prefers gentlemen to wear jackets for dinner, while The Clubhouse requires it. Ties are optional.

What’s with that guy in the white cap? Unless he’s eating at the Raw Bar he had better “decapitate”. Gentlemen are expected to remove their hats whenever entering a Club facility.

This couple is passionate – not about each other but about their cells. Talking on cell phones in any of the Club’s restaurants is not permitted.

These two photographs show a man and woman, who are obvi-ously dedicated joggers. Good for them. But before they hit the paths at OR, they have to comply to our Dress Code. Shirts must be worn for jogging, walking and other forms of exercise within the community. All shirts worn by gentlemen must have sleeves. Ladies shirts must have full cov-erage.

LAST WORD

My grand daughter always arrives at Ocean Reef with these “short short shorts”. Now, even before she unpacks, I can acquaint her with the ORC Dress Code. Cut-off, unhemmed and tattered jean shorts are not allowed. The Club’s standards of dress are required for all mem-bers and guests over 12 years of age.

Obviously this young woman is pleased with her cheeky choice of a swimsuit. But at Buccaneer Island it is definitely a no-go. Thong style bathing suits are not allowed at Ocean Reef.

When is a cover-up a good thing? Bathing cover-ups, as well as footwear, must be worn in all areas away from the beach and pools on Buccaneer Island.

TENNIS & CROQUET

OK, so he’s Justin Bieber. He still can’t play golf on the Dolphin or Hammock dressed like that. Golf Courses and the Practice Range require collared shirts for men (no mock turtle necks) and appropriate golfing shorts (no cargo pants). Shirt tails must be tucked in at all times. And, of course, no metal spikes… Sleeveless golf blouses with collars are OK for ladies.

I love the outfits these two ladies are wearing, but please not for croquet at Ocean Reef. All-white attire must be worn on the Croquet Courts.

This tennis player is an English Knight. Well, Sir, though your serve may be smashing, your court attire is unacceptable at the Ocean Reef Tennis Center. Tennis requires appropriate ten-nis clothing and footwear. Swim trunks and non-tennis t-shirts are not permitted.

The Dress Code has been a long standing and cherished tradition of the members of Ocean Reef Club. It is not overly demanding and is based on good taste and respect for the Club and its members.

Dining AttireThe required attire for gentlemen in all

restaurants is best described as Keys Casual – collared shirts and dress trousers in the winter season and equally appropriate attire for ladies. If worn, shorts must be of walking length. Please note that smart long denim (jeans) is only allowed in Gianni, Islander, Reef Lounge, Burgee Bar, Raw Bar, and during breakfast service in The Ocean Room.

During the winter season, sport coats are preferred on gentlemen for dinner in The Ocean Room and required in the members-only Golf Clubhouse, with neckties optional.

HeadwearGentlemen are expected to remove their hats

whenever entering a Club facility, excluding the Raw Bar, where headwear is acceptable.

Cellular TelephonesUse of cell phones in any of the Club’s

restaurants is not permitted.
