Early Years & Key Stage 1

Our Maths Café in years 1 and 2 were very well attended and the adults

found them very useful when helping their children with maths. The phonics

workshops in Reception were a big hit also.

EYFS & KS1

Lots of classes have been learning stories

following on from our use of the Primary

Writing Project. This involves the

children retelling the stories using

actions. We have seen Hansel and

Gretel, We’re going on a Bear Hunt and

the 3 Billy Goats Gruff, to name a few.

Our Foundation Stage and KS1 had a fantastic morning when Alan Windram, the author of the Mac and Bob picture books visited the Infant School. He read his new book, 'The Party Problem' and taught us how to sing 'Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes' using Scottish words. Alan also shared with us the actions for his songs 'Wowee' and 'The Washing Day Song' We all had a great time!

The reception children have

been buddied up with one of

the Year 6 children. They

love spending time together

and celebrated their

friendship with a liturgy.

Key Stage 2

There have been lots of competitive sports

events taking place in KS2. The cross country

teams competed in the South Tyneside

Schools competition and also the Minors

Cross Country. They successfully retained

the overall winning school shields. The

Sports Hall athletics team finished 3rd

overall in their competition. The year 3 and 4

quiksticks teams performed really well in the

South Tyneside event as did the Y5/6 Tag

rugby teams.

During the last week of half term our

Year 6 children took part in some healthy

heart workshops. They actually got

hands on with a real heart.

After our year 4 children

attended Boggle Hole for a 3

day residential trip. We re-

ceived a lovely email from

the hostel management:

We deal with hundreds of

schools and I must honestly

say your school and teachers

were an absolute delight.

Polite, lovely kids and well

organised, kind and caring

teachers, a real credit to your

school.

Hope to see you again

Many Kind Thanks

Peta

Year 3 celebrated a lovely re-

membrance mass with their

friends and family. They

were very respectful and read

beautifully.

Federation Events

Autumn term has been very busy across the Federation. We have

celebrated a whole school Mass with Fr Dave in October. On Friday 24th

November we are sending off our shoeboxes to children less fortunate than

ourselves.

For Children in Need day we came

dressed in our own clothes,

pyjamas and fancy dress. We paid

a donation for doing so, and we

were treated to a lovely cake sale.

There was lots of work

happening across the

Federation during anti-

bullying week. Some of us

talked about what makes a

good friend, others talked

why bullying makes you feel.

Some of us performed small

plays, others wrote play

scripts and Year 6 looked at

how bullying took place on a

national scale during WW2.

At the end of Autumn 1 the whole

school took part in an Art morning.

Each class looked at different saints

and produced art work using different

materials. Our work is on display

around the school.
