STATION TASK CARD Unit 1 2 3 4 Writing Station Activity Name: What’s in the news? Standard: Text Types and Purposes Skill/Objective: (COPY IN YOUR PASSPORT) Informational Text Directions: 1. Skim through the newspapers or online articles provided by the teacher. Read the headlines to find one that interests you. 2. Use an Activity Sheet to read for information and then record the “who, what, when, where, why, and how” from the article. 3. Now summarize the article using your own words. Be sure to include the “5W’s and H” in your version.
Challenge: Using the newspaper, cut out five headlines and glue them neatly on a piece of paper. Which of the 5W’s are within the title of each article? Reflection: How does the skill of skimming for information help readers in locating information in a newspaper or magazine?
