It might be a while until your small business gets back to business as usual. For your customers: Make your place of business as hygienic as possible and communicate what you are doing to customers so they feel comfortable visiting. For your employees: Check, modify, and communicate HR policies regarding remote working, sick-leave, and compensation during health crisis. Try to ensure your policies are as flexible and non-punitive as possible. Sick employees should be encouraged to stay home. For your workflow: Cross-train employees for key functions so that daily schedules can continue relatively uninter- rupted by potential employee absences. Where relevant, consider staggering start and end times to reduce large numbers of people coming together at the same time; and create and test remote employee collaboration systems (consider apps such as Slack and Zoom). For your cashflow: Communicate with your landlord (or tenants) and lenders about expectations and request flex- ibility (better to have that conversation now). For yourself: Eat well, sleep, and exercise. Taking care of yourself in this time of stress will improve your resis- tance to infection and resilience in managing difficult business situations. MACCI Members, During this time with the impacts of COVID-19 and the Safer at Home Emergency Order, on our local business community already in effect, in addition to good hand hygiene and common-sense precautions with your employ-ees and patrons, Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MACCI) encourages all local businesses to consider the following:

For your business: Prepare for negative economic impacts. => Capital: Create, confirm, or expand your line of credit. => Staffing: Develop staffing plans for varying levels of customers and revenue (what does an 80% scenario plan look like?). => Insurance: Check with your insurance provider to understand your coverage and options. => Speak to your suppliers, investors, partners and local officials on a daily basis to learn how you can start to implement safeguards that will help you stay above the red while officials work to contain COVID-19.

For your workflow: Cross-train employees for key functions so that daily schedules can continue relatively uninter-rupted by potential employee absences. Where relevant, consider staggering start and end times to reduce large numbers of people coming together at the same time; and create and test remote employee collaboration systems (consider apps such as Slack and Zoom).

For your cashflow: Communicate with your landlord (or tenants) and lenders about expectations and request flex-ibility (better to have that conversation now).

For yourself: Eat well, sleep, and exercise. Taking care of yourself in this time of stress will improve your resis-tance to infection and resilience in managing difficult business situations. And of course, wash your hands and don’t touch your face, or anyone else, for that matter.

How you can continue to support local businesses

The following helpful tips are meant to maximize the shopping experience with MACCI gift certificates and local merchants while supporting our local economy. Gift certificate transactions are meant to be completed in full, without the expectation of cash back. Thereby, our community-wide gift certificate program increases the economic impact to the Marshfield area. Every dollar spent locally has a multiplier effect up to 7 times, thus strengthening our businesses and organizations and growing local jobs.

MACCI gift certificates make great gifts because certificates are:

Available in any dollar amount.

Tip – We recommend the purchase of larger dollar amounts be broken down into smaller increments, which are easier to spend.

Convenient gift idea.

Tip – Certificates are easily obtained from the MACCI office. For larger orders we recommend you placeyour order at least 24 hours in advance.

Certificates can be redeemed at any Marshfield area business.

Tip – We recommend purchases be made in full without the expectation of cash back. This is easier forthe retailer and improves the shopping experience.

Valid for one year as of date of purchase.

Tip – Should the certificate not be spent and expires, we recommend the certificate be brought back to theMACCI office where a new certificate can be reissued. We recommend the reissued certificate be spentwithin the week.

Please continue to consider MACCI gift certificates for any occasion and continue to support and grow the Marshfield area economy.

Buy certificates now, use them

ENC, Inc. (Everyone Needs a Community) is a nonprofit working on building an affordable multigenerational, autism friendly community in Marshfield. We are passionate about combatting loneliness and creating purpose-ful meaningful lives for those who are at high risk for loneliness.

Autism is a developmental condition with varying degrees of social difficulties and varying degrees of commu-nication impairments. Many of those with autism would benefit from living in a community that understands autism and is willing to bridge the communication gap.

Our aging population is growing and many are isolated. Loneliness has been shown to be as hard on health as fifteen cigarettes a day.

We aim to build a community of 100 to 125 people in a cottage court style with a community center, ultimately doing outreach to the greater community as well.

We are in talks with a developer, WHPC (Wisconsin Housing Preservation Corps). We have the endorsement of the Economic Development Committee of Marshfield and are well into the first phase of our multiphase endeavor.

We are looking for interested people to engage in our organization. If you have passion for the aging and those with disabilities consider getting involved.
