You can specify the outbound NAT to map or translate alocal subnet of IP addresses to another subnet. See Creatinga VPN Connection Using VPNaaS in Using Oracle CloudInfrastructure Compute Classic.

Save your customized layoutand viewing preferences usingvisual object editor

You can save your customized layout. After saving thelayout, you can load it and switch between the differentlayouts that you have saved. You can also zoom in tospecific sections of the layout and save this section of thelayout along with your viewing preferences. See ManagingResources Using the Visual Object Editor in Using OracleCloud Infrastructure Compute Classic.

New Windows images available Windows Server images in Oracle Cloud Marketplace havebeen updated to version 18.2.4.

To use these images, you will need to delete any existingWindows images. See Deleting a Private Machine Image inUsing Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute Classic.

After deleting the existing images, you can use the newimage, Windows Server 2016 Standard Edition, from theOracle Cloud Marketplace.

Note: For Windows instances that are running by using olderimages (prior than 18.1.2), review the MOS note thatdescribes critical fixes for Windows instances to improvestability and performance.

VPN connection to otheraccounts by using VPNaaS

You can connect to your Compute Classic instances fromanother Oracle Cloud account or connect an Oracle cloudenvironment to other cloud services.

VPNaaS fields that you canupdate

You can update IKE ID, Phase 1 IKE and Phase 2 ESPconfigurations, and enable or disable PFS.

The resource names in the commands have changed fromplural to singular. If you misspell an action or a resourcename, you’ll be prompted to enter the correct command.See CLI Reference for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure ComputeClassic.

New Windows images available Windows Server images in Oracle Cloud Marketplace havebeen updated to version 18.1.2. This release includes fixes toaddress vulnerabilities under the names Spectre(CVE-2017-5753 and CVE-2017-5715) and Meltdown(CVE-2017-5754) along with fixes to improve stability andperformance.

To use these images, you will need to delete any existingWindows images. See Deleting a Private Machine Image inUsing Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute Classic.

After deleting the existing images, you can use the followingnew images from the Oracle Cloud Marketplace: • Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard• Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise• Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard

Cloning an instance withpersistent boot disk

A new tutorial is available to help you clone an instance that

Updating a runningorchestration v2

You can now update objects created by orchestration v2even when the orchestration is running. Earlier, you had tosuspend or stop the orchestration in order to update objects.See Updating an Orchestration v2 in Using Oracle CloudInfrastructure Compute Classic.

Updating instances created withorchestrations v2 now allowsyou to update the IP networkinterfaces of a stopped instance

You can now update the IP network interfaces of a stoppedinstance from the Orchestrations update page in the webconsole. Earlier, you had to delete the IP networkconfiguration and create it afresh. See Updating anOrchestration v2 in Using Oracle Cloud InfrastructureCompute Classic.

New shapes available New GPU optimized shapes are available in some sites. See About Shapes in Using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure ComputeClassic.

Generating a Screen Capture If you’re unable to access an instance that is in the runningstate and you need information to help you understand whyyou’re not able to access the instance, you can generate ascreen capture of the instance. See Generating a ScreenCapture in Using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure ComputeClassic.

Using the web console to createthe virtual circuits and crossconnects that are required toestablish a private dataconnection through OracleCloud InfrastructureFastConnect Classic.

You can now use the web console to provision FastConnectClassic by creating virtual circuits. You can then useFastConnect Classic to access your Oracle Cloud servicesusing a private data connection from your premises. You canalso track the status of the provisioning process. See Connecting to Instances Using Oracle Cloud InfrastructureFastConnect Classic in Using Oracle Cloud InfrastructureCompute Classic.

Update an orchestration v2which is in the Error state

If you update an orchestration v2 and the changes you madecause the orchestration to go into an Error state, you canupdate the orchestration to undo your changes. See Updating an Orchestration v2 in Using Oracle CloudInfrastructure Compute Classic.

Create a blank orchestration v2in the web console, and thenadd objects to it as required

You can create a blank orchestration in the web console.Instead of defining the orchestration in a JSON-format fileand then uploading the orchestration to Compute Classic,you can create a blank orchestration, and then add objects toit by updating the orchestration. While updating theorchestration, you can define attributes for a single instanceor create complex topologies that consist of multipleinstances and multiple networks. See Creating an InstanceUsing a Blank Orchestration v2 in Using Oracle CloudInfrastructure Compute Classic.

View the event log of a VPNconnection that you are settingup using VPNaaS

When you try to set up a VPN connection between the cloudgateway and the third-party device in your data center usingVPNaaS, you can view the event log to identify andtroubleshoot the issues if the IPSec tunnel is not establishedor if it goes down. See Viewing the Event Log for a VPNConnection in Using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure ComputeClassic.

Retry to establish a VPNconnection using VPNaaS if theprovisioning process isincomplete

While creating a VPN Connection, you can monitor theprovisioning status of your VPN connection by looking at thevalue of Life Cycle Status on the VPN Connections page. Ifthe Life Cycle Status of the VPN connection changes toError, you can retry establishing the connection afteridentifying the issue and fixing it. To retry establishing theVPN connection, use the new Retry menu option that’savailable for the VPN Connection.

Navigation tabs and tiles in theleft pane of the web console arereplaced by a drop-down list

Earlier, you could use vertical tabs and tiles to navigatethrough the web console. Now, you navigate through the webconsole by using a drop-down list.

The Private Gateway page hasmoved

The Private Gateway page is now available underFastConnect in the Network drop-down list. Earlier, thePrivate Gateway page was available under the VPN tab.

When you create an instance using the Create Instancewizard, the instance is created with persistence set to false.This enables you to update any attribute of the instancewhen you suspend the orchestration.

QuickStarts enhanced to allowyou to select other images

From the QuickStarts page, you can now select the Show AllImages option to go to the Images page of the CreateInstance wizard.

Compute Classic accountsprovisioned from 17.4.2onwards no longer see theCorente VPN pages

Corente VPN accounts aren’t created for new ComputeClassic accounts. Instead, use the VPN as a Service(VPNaaS) page to create a VPN connection to yourinstances. See Setting Up a VPN Connection Using VPNaaSin Using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute Classic.

The VPNaaS, Corente, andFastConnect pages havemoved

The Corente VPN, VPNaaS, and FastConnect pages arenow available under the VPN tab on the Network page.Earlier, the Corente pages were under the VPN tab, while theFastConnect Private Gateways and VPNaaS VPNConnections pages were under the IP Networks tab.

Instance management optionsdisabled for PaaS instances

The Compute Classic console disables the stop and rebootoptions and icons for PaaS instances such as Java CloudService instances. You should manage those instances fromthe respective PaaS service console.

Instance snapshot optiondisabled for instances in anerror state

The web console no longer enables the option to create aninstance snapshot when an instance is in an error state.

Creating an instance usingQuickStarts

You can launch the Create Instance QuickStarts page fromthe My Services Dashboard page or from the Instances pageof the Compute Classic web console. The QuickStarts pageallows you to quickly create an instance using a predefinedinstance configuration. The instance is created using defaultstorage and networking options. See Creating an InstanceUsing QuickStarts in Using Oracle Cloud InfrastructureCompute Classic.

Using the web console toupdate orchestrations v2

The web console is enhanced to allow you to updateorchestrations v2 that are in the stopped or suspended state.The Update option allows you to modify object-levelattributes as well as general orchestration attributes such asobject persistence. See Updating an Orchestration v2 inUsing Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute Classic.

Creating an instance using theCreate Instance wizardgenerates orchestrations v2

When you use the Create Instance wizard to create aninstance, the Create Instance wizard now uses a singleorchestration v2 to manage the instance and all theassociated resources including storage volumes andnetworking objects. You can view and modify theorchestrations created by the Create Instance wizard on theOrchestrations page. See Monitoring Orchestrations v2 inUsing Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute Classic.

The estimated cost of aninstance is displayed whenusing the Create Instancewizard to create an instance

When you use the Create Instance wizard to create aninstance, the estimated cost of the instance is displayed. Theestimated cost is calculated at list price and it assumes thatthe instance is running continuously for a period of onemonth (31 days). The estimated cost varies depending onthe shape and the amount of storage selected.

Using the web console to createthe private gateways that arerequired to use FastConnectClassic private peering

You can now use the web console to create a privategateway. You can then configure your FastConnect Classicconnection to use this private gateway to connect toinstances on IP networks. FastConnect Classic connectionsusing private gateways allow you to connect to the private IPaddresses of your instances. See Connecting to InstancesUsing Oracle Cloud Infrastructure FastConnect Classic inUsing Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute Classic.

Using the web console toupload and manageOrchestrations v2

You can now upload, start, view, download, suspend, stop,or delete orchestrations v2 using the web console. Earlier,you could upload and manage orchestrations v2 using theREST API. See Managing Resources Using Orchestrationsv2 in Using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute Classic.

Using the web console to switchbetween multiple entitlements ofCompute Classic

If you have multiple entitlements of Oracle CloudInfrastructure Compute Classic in your account, you canswitch between different entitlements in the web console byselecting the appropriate option in the site selector.

You can use the icons or menu options on the Instancespage on the web console to start, stop, or reboot an instance.If you click an instance to view details, you can also use thestart, stop, or reboot icons on the instance details page.

Shutting down instances usingthe Stop option

To shut down an instance and free up the resources utilizedby the instance, you can now use the Stop option on the webconsole. Earlier, this option was labeled Shut Down.

Updating the default boot diskwhile creating an instance usingthe Create Instance wizard

When you create an instance using the Create Instancewizard, on the Storage page you can use the Update optionto modify attributes of the persistent boot disk that is createdby default. See Creating an Instance from the InstancesPage in Using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute Classic.

New Command Line Interface(CLI) tool released

A new CLI tool is now available to run commands to createand manage resources in your Oracle Cloud InfrastructureCompute Classic account. The new CLI supports all theobjects and operations supported by the previous CLI tool.However, the new tool uses a different syntax and the namesof objects might differ. Context-sensitive help is available toprovide information about the options for each command andthe permitted values for each option. For instructions todownload and install the new CLI tool, see CLI Reference forOracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute Classic. In future, thenew CLI tool will be enhanced to support multiple cloud IaaSservices.

Connecting to instances on IPnetworks using FastConnectClassic private peering

You can set up a FastConnect Classic private peeringconnection to access your Compute Classic instances. Ifyour instances are on IP networks you can access themusing their private IP addresses from your on-premisesprivate networks. You don’t need to associate public IPaddresses with instances on IP networks. To set up a privatepeering connection, use the REST API to create a privategateway object in Compute Classic and attach your IPnetworks to this private gateway. Then set up a FastConnectClassic private peering connection by ordering Oracle CloudInfrastructure FastConnect Classic. See Connecting toInstances Using FastConnect Classic in Using Oracle CloudInfrastructure Compute Classic.

Restoring storage volumesacross sites using remotesnapshots

If your domain spans multiple sites, you can now create astorage volume snapshot in one site and restore it in anothersite using remote snapshots. See Backing Up and RestoringStorage Volumes Using Snapshots in Using Oracle CloudInfrastructure Compute Classic.

Using persistent SSD blockstorage

In some sites, SSD block storage is now available. You canattach these persistent SSD block storage volumes toinstances as either boot disks or data disks.

Creating objects using thevisual object editor

You can now create some objects in the visual object editorby dragging an object from the palette on the left anddropping it on the canvas in the center. You can also updateor delete some objects in the visual object editor. See Managing Resources Using the Visual Object Editor in UsingOracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute Classic.

Selecting IP reservations for IPnetworks while creating aninstance using the CreateInstance wizard

You can now select IP reservations from the public IP pool orthe cloud IP pool in the Network page of the Create Instancewizard. These IP reservations are used to access instanceinterfaces on IP networks. See Creating an Instance from theInstances Page in Using Oracle Cloud InfrastructureCompute Classic.

Updating an IP networkinterface while creating aninstance using the CreateInstance wizard

When you use the Create Instance wizard to create aninstance, if required, you can update an IP network interfacewhile configuring the network settings. See Creating anInstance from the Instances Page in Using Oracle CloudInfrastructure Compute Classic.

Using the orchestrations v2REST API to create andmanage multiple interdependentobjects

Orchestrations v2 provide a modular and flexible approach tocreating and managing multiple resources through a singleJSON file. Orchestrations v2 are similar to orchestrations v1,but they also provide certain benefits over orchestrations v1functionality. Using orchestrations v2 you can createreferences across interdependent objects, so that entirehierarchies can be created or restored without manuallyensuring that dependencies are satisfied. You can updatesome attributes of objects while the orchestration is running.You can also manage the state and lifecycle of each instancein an orchestration, without disturbing the state of otherresources. See About Orchestrations v2 in Using OracleCloud Infrastructure Compute Classic.

Shutting down and restartinginstances

Instance life cycle management operations have beenenhanced to allow you to shut down an instance that uses apersistent bootable storage volume. Earlier, you could deletean instance by stopping the instance orchestration. Thiswould stop all the instances and other resources defined inthe orchestration. Now you can shut down an instancewithout changing the state of other objects in theorchestration. You can restart the instance later on. Theinstance resumes with the same configuration and data. See Stopping and Restarting an Instance in Using Oracle CloudInfrastructure Compute Classic.

Using the REST API to set up aVPN connection using VPN as aService (VPNaaS)

You can set up a VPN connection between your data centerand IP networks in your Compute Classic site using VPN asa Service (VPNaaS). VPNaaS uses IPSec-based tunnels tocarry encrypted traffic between your data center and yourinstances in Compute Classic. You can set up a VPNaaSconnection using the REST API. See Setting Up a VPNConnection Using VPNaaS in Using Oracle CloudInfrastructure Compute Classic.

Configuring IP networkinterfaces while creatinginstances using the CreateInstance wizard

The Network page of the Create Instance wizard is enhancedto allow you to specify various attributes of an interface to beadded to an IP network. You can select the IP network youwant to add each interface to and specify a static IP addressif required. You can also specify a name for the vNIC andselect the vNICsets that you want to add each vNIC to. If youdon’t add your instance to the shared network, you canselect an interface on an IP network as the default gateway.See Creating an Instance from the Instances Page in UsingOracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute Classic.

Creating a delayed instancesnapshot

When you create an instance using a nonpersistent bootdisk, you can take a snapshot of the instance to createmachine image based on that instance. Now, when yougenerate the snapshot from the web console, you can selectan option to defer the snapshot until the instance is about toshut down. This allows you to continue making changes tothe instance and ensure that the snapshot captures all thechanges you’ve made. See Creating an Instance Snapshot inUsing Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute Classic.

Selecting an IP pool whilecreating an IP reservation for IPnetworks

You can now select an IP pool when using the web consoleto create an IP reservation for IP networks. Earlier, you couldselect an IP pool only by using the REST API. See Reservinga Public IP Address for IP Networks in Using Oracle CloudInfrastructure Compute Classic.

Attaching NVMe SSD data disksto instances

You can now use NVMe SSD disks as nonpersistent datadisks attached to your instances. These disks are attachedas raw block devices with the device name /dev/xvdz on anOracle Linux instance. After your instance is created, formatyour NVMe SSD disk with the required file system and thenmount it on your instance.

New shapes available New general purpose, high-memory, and high I/O shapes areavailable in some sites. See About Machine Images andShapes in Using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure ComputeClassic.

Creating storage volumesnapshots from theVisualization page

The Visualization page now allows you to create storagevolume snapshots. See Managing Resources Using theVisual Object Editor in Using Oracle Cloud InfrastructureCompute Classic.

Associating public IP addresseswith an instance added to IPnetworks (release 17.1.2)

If you create an instance with multiple virtual interfaces andadd those interfaces to IP networks, then you can associatea public IP address with each interface of the instance. Youcan also associate an IP address with an interface to enablethat interface to be accessible to other services in Oraclecloud. See Workflow for Assigning a Public IP Address to aNetwork Interface in Using Oracle Cloud InfrastructureCompute Classic.You can also use the web console to associate a public IPaddresses to an instance that has an interface on an IPnetwork. See Managing Public IP Addresses in Using OracleCloud Infrastructure Compute Classic.

Applying access control lists tovirtual interfaces on IP networks(release 17.1.2)

You can control the flow of traffic within and across the IPnetworks in your account by defining security rules andcreating access control lists (ACLs). ACLs apply securityrules to specified sets of virtual interfaces. See Workflow forApplying Access Control Lists in Using Oracle CloudInfrastructure Compute Classic.You can also use the web console to create security rulesand apply them to virtual interfaces using ACLs. See Managing Security Rules for IP Networks and ManagingACLs in Using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute Classic.

Viewing and updating resourcesusing a visual object editor(release 17.1.2)

You can go to the Visualization page on the web console tosee a visual representation of the objects in your account.See Managing Resources Using the Visual Object Editor inUsing Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute Classic.

Providing high I/O local storageto your instances using NVMExpress SSD disks (release17.1.2)

You can select high I/O shapes to create instances. Theseshapes enable you to provide local, ephemeral NVMe SSDboot disks for your instances. These shapes have a fixeddisk size of 400 GB per OCPU. See About Machine Imagesand Shapes in Using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure ComputeClassic.

Creating containers in OracleCloud Infrastructure ObjectStorage Classic by using theOracle Cloud InfrastructureCompute Classic REST API orin orchestrations (release17.1.2)

You can create containers in your associated Oracle CloudInfrastructure Object Storage Classic instance by specifyingthe /integrations/osscontainer object in a REST API callor in an orchestration. See Orchestration Attributes forintegrations/osscontainer in Using Oracle CloudInfrastructure Compute Classic.

You can set up a VPN connection between a third-partydevice in your data center and the IP networks in yourCompute Classic site using a Corente Services Gatewayinstance. In this scenario, if you configure two such VPNtunnels, then you can enable active-active high availability(HA) between these tunnels, so that if either tunnel fails,traffic is routed over the second tunnel. You havecomplete control over how private IP addresses are assignedto your instances as well as over the network configuration.Using IP networks, you can create a network architecturethat mirrors and extends the architecture you use in your on-premises data center. Oracle-provided imagesenhanced to support multiplevNICs

All Oracle-provided Oracle Linux images have been updatedto support multiple virtual network interfaces for eachinstance. Now when you use Oracle-provided images tocreate an instance, you can add each instance to up to eightIP networks, inclusive of the shared network. This enablesyou to take advantage of setting up your own IP networks.

New images available New images are available for creating instances. To identifythe new images, look for the version in the image name. See About Oracle-Provided Linux Images in Using Oracle CloudInfrastructure Compute Classic.

Scheduled backups You can schedule backups of storage volumes at specifiedintervals. The backups are stored remotely in Oracle CloudInfrastructure Object Storage Cloud. When required, you canuse these backups to restore a storage volume in the samesite. See Scheduling Backups of Storage Volumes andRestoring from Backups in Using Oracle Cloud InfrastructureCompute Classic.

You can launch the Create Instance QuickStarts page fromthe My Services Dashboard page or from the Instances pageof the Compute Classic web console. The QuickStarts pageallows you to quickly create an instance using a predefinedinstance configuration. The instance is created using defaultstorage and networking options. The Compute Classic console disables the stop and rebootoptions and icons for PaaS instances such as Java CloudService instances. You should manage those instances fromthe respective PaaS service console.

Instance snapshot optiondisabled for instances in anerror state

The web console no longer enables the option to create aninstance snapshot when an instance is in an error state.

Using the web console toupdate orchestrations v2

The web console is enhanced to allow you to updateorchestrations v2 that are in the stopped or suspended state.The Update option allows you to modify object-levelattributes as well as general orchestration attributes such asobject persistence. See Updating an Orchestration v2 inUsing Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute Classic.

The estimated cost of aninstance is displayed whenusing the Create Instancewizard to create an instance

When you use the Create Instance wizard to create aninstance, the estimated cost of the instance is displayed. Theestimated cost is calculated at list price and it assumes thatthe instance is running continuously for a period of onemonth (31 days). The estimated cost varies depending on theshape and the amount of storage selected.
