Its been another busy week in our beautiful Bay. Sterreweg turned 5! There was a wonderful celebration at Plett Market on main street – with supporters and volunteers coming from Plett and far, including the first volunteers from Belgium’s NGO Dreamcatcher. Letter via the Editor To the Library Manager , Dear Sir/Madam I note that the Library was closed on Monday the 7th of November to receive stock, and will also be closed on the 9th to train staff. The library is a service, funded by the rate and tax payers, and is there for the benefit of all residents of Plettenberg Bay. As there was no one in the Library, it is hard to believe that stock was being received: Even so, what is to stop staff receiving goods and keeping the library open? It worked that way before: Imagine a business closing every time they received stock? Two day's later, closed to train staff? Staff training should be done before or after hours, and not at the expense of the residents. Better still, qualified or experienced staff should have been selected for employment. Once again, imagine a business closing every time they employed a new staff member? On the subject of staff: Perhaps they could train ALL staff to be more friendly and co-operative. One staff member in particular is very unhelpful and unfriendly. Please, keep the library open for the residents on the hours stipulated. There is no genuine need to close for the reasons cited. Our dearest Rusty has finally gone home to the Lord she loved so much.

She passed away quietly with her family at her bedside on Sunday morning

after a long year of pain and suffering.

We will miss her but are so grateful that she is now at peace.

Our thanks go especially to Anton and Dawn and our extended family at Plett Evangelical Church ,Dr Nel ,

Sister Jess and her team of angels at Strombolis, the Hospice ladies, Xolani at Dove's, our precious children,

and all our friends who have been, and continue to be, such a source of support and comfort.

There will be a memorial service for Rusty this Sunday 13th at 9.00am at St Christopher's Hall

(next to the Catholic Church). All welcome to attend.

A Thought for the Week. Psalm 119:89 [KJV] "For ever, O Lord, Thy word is settled in heaven." There is no question in my mind the Bible is God's Word - His divine, inerrant revelation to mankind. Someone has said of the Bible: "The Bible is not the sort of book mere man could write, nor would if he could!" It is of this book that David says that the words therein are "settled in heaven". The word "settled" - "natsap" in the original language - has the meaning of "being established and secure". The world that we live in and the things that we daily see on tv or hear on the radio leave us most of the time feeling insecure and anxious about the future. How reassuring it is for those of us who have put our faith in Jesus Christ to be able to read the Bible and to know that God's Word is steadfast and unfailing. Just as we are assured by God Himself that He does not change and is always the same, likewise we have His guarantee that His Word will never change. The writer to the Hebrews tells us: "Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, and today and forever." Heb.13:8] And Christ, Himself, said: "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My words shall not pass away." [Matt.24:35] These ancient Scriptures full of promises and prophecies has never failed and have proved to be utterly reliable over all these ages. It is the only source that can give a person the full truth about God and His plans and purposes for our lives. In this unique Book we can find the answer to our many questions about life and life hereafter. It tells us the wonderful good news - the Gospel - of God's love for us, the gift of His Son and eternal life. "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him


Letter via the Editor. Even though I haven’t worked for the CVC a very long time, I would just like to thank Heidi Knight for all the effort she has put into the animals in the townships. It is remarkable in only a few years how the townships animals have improved due to Heidi’s efforts in educating the residents on there pets. From personal experience seeing areas that haven’t been completed, compared to areas that were pretty much finish is beyond belief. All the houses with pets, in finished areas, have had shelters put up, available water and the animals are flourishing compared to before. And still now, the residents have come up to me to ask where Heidi went to. This to me shows dedication and an unlimited supply

of extra effort put in on Heidi’s part, and believe me, to get through to some of these people is a feat on its own! This makes me wonder, I have heard a lot of rumours going around that the question has been raised “ Why has Heidi started the CVC and all of a sudden DROPPED it?” Well, this I think is a cheek as she has poured her heart out to the animals, ensuring that they are well looked after and have somewhat quality of life while they are still on this earth. She left the Charity shop intact and well running (the lack of funds could not be blamed on anyone as this would have happened even if she was still there) and she finished the majority of the dogs in Plett’s townships. She took it upon herself to ensure she trained someone and made sure that they were the right people for the job before she even considered leaving. I also know that she sent in to the principal of the CVC 3 resignation letters before she left in the space of 8 months preparing him. Heidi has done a marvellous job with the animals and the township people and we should all be ashamed of ourselves for expecting her to never leave. We should congratulate her on her past achievements with all her efforts and hope that the next person can do this job nearly as well as she has. To Heidi, thank you so much for ensuring that those poor animals who have had no choice to be where they are now have a voice. Nicky

Bitou CVC News At the end of October we sadly bid Farewell to Nikki from Bitou CVC. Nikki was employed at very short notice and then ably assisted us with collecting and delivering dogs and cats from the townships, so that we were able to continue the Sterilization program. At present we are looking for a replacement for Nikki and we shall then resume the campaign. The Charity Shop located in the Atmar Centre behind Pep Stores is always looking for old clothes and goods to generate funds for the vaccination and sterilization campaign. These goods may be dropped off or we can arrange for collection. Volunteers are always welcome and should contact us at the CVC Charity Shop. Thank you to everyone for all your support thus far. sometimes to the point of martyrdom. In addition, Remembrance Day,

(formerly known as Armistice Day, when World War I ended) is observed

in most of the world on November 11th. This commemorates all who served their countries and died in the two

World Wars and in subsequent conflicts. We merge these two in our Remembrance Service as we

remember and give thanks for our loved ones and all those departed who have influenced our lives for good and for God.

Conservation Corner Where is “Away,” after you throw trash away? We live in a disposable world. When you buy coffee, it’s served in a plastic cup; groceries are packed into plastic bags. Water bottles, bags of chips, you name it. What happens with this rubbish after it is thrown away? “Out of sight out of mind?” Well it should be on your mind. Upgrading at Robberg Nature Reserve Cape Nature embarks on a resurfacing project of the entrance road and parking area in the Robberg Nature Reserve and Marine Protected Area. Paving has already started at the parking area which has been cordoned off in sections. This might limit the number of visitors inside the reserve for the time being. The entrance road will be closed off for the last part of the project and entrance to the reserve will unfortu-nately not be possible. Visitors must park outside the reserve and walk into the reserve for the time being. The project will finish on 9 December. Cape Nature apologises for any inconvenience that might be caused due to the upgrading project and trusts that the visitors to Robberg will appreciate this notice and adhere to the temporary adjustments. Letter via the Editor Annoying Dogs Dogs are man’s best friend, but they can also be man’s most annoying and irritating if not controlled and trained. such is the case of barking dogs in the lower section of Brackenridge Estate. I am becoming very annoyed and fed-up with the continual barking that echoes across the valley to my home in Hanoi's Crescent. I work a 5 days week so I don’t know what happens during the week but at the weekends when I like to relax in the peace and quiet of the area, I have to put up with what sounds like small dogs barking on and on and on during the day. Either their owners are there and don’t care or they go out and leave them alone and don’t know the irritation they are causing to others. f one is a visitor to Brackenridge, you are not allowed to take a dog in with you and apparently they are very adamant about that, but don’t seem to have any interest in doing anything about their residents’ dogs. Surely their controlling trustees can take action against their residents and bring in a bit of control of the barking dogs. All dogs bark when somebody cams to your property but even then owners, who have trained their dogs, can call them in. Hoping for some action to the above Hanois Crescent Resident. Chatterbox - Summer is coming There is a festive feeling in the air. Like a feeling of expectancy. The only thing that is not playing the game is the wind. My garden has become the playground of other peoples linen, garden furniture, toys, blankets, hats - the things that I find. My stuff meanwhile is visiting other people on the estate. Never mind it eventually blows back . What I am trying to say is that the holidays are nearly upon us. In two weeks the Matrics all arrive to turn our litttle village into a whirlwind of youth having FUN. Music comes out of every spot, be it at a B & B, little or big hotel and the backpacker places and our streets are full of happy, brightly dressed giggling youth that make us feel younger. Whale tail circle has flowers planted on the - what was scrubby - embankment and all the roadside painting of the danger points have been done. I WISH SOMEONE would take that little derelict property next to whale tail circle and clean it, cut the grass and trim the trees. It looks as tho' it used to be the entrance of a grand place. Come on Municipality (Memory - on bended knees) give a couple of those out of work chaps the chance to turn it into something, even just cleaning would be a great improvement. The shops are all full of decorations and the pretty pressies are being beautifully displayed. The coffee shop is out again outside Woolies. The speed traps have all been mended so be careful about

speeding in our little town. The restuarants have all noticed an increase in feet so a lot of overseas visitors are here already. I love talking to them and especially when I see them pull out that extra thick guide on what to see in South Africa. I immediately rush over and ask if I can help and proceed to give them an hour of what I think are good places to visit in this area. They are always so grateful and all say South Africans are the nicest people they have met in their travels. Met a couple (Italians) the other day who were in S.A. for two weeks. They had a list of places to see between here and Cape Town they had picked out of their book. I have never even heard of some of the places let alone them being a tourist attractiion. I explained they needed two months for that so between Cameron & I we guided them on a brief stop over trip to Cape Town. Anyday now I am sure the Christmas lights, that are up all year round, will get a spit and polish and a coat of paint and then be switched on. I see one light has been completed removed from its pole on the way down to market square. Just wires waving forlornly in the wind. The wind most proba-bly. Anyway Chow for now – CHATTERBOX

Phakamisani School News Principal’s speech fourth term 2011 Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen’s. I greet you all in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Our third term is over, now we are looking for the fourth term. Fourth term has many challenges and has a short time. We must use every day effectively and constructively. Every body or educator must put his or her shoulder on the heavy wheels so that he or she can make a difference at school. Let’s work together for quality education. President Zuma in the State of the Nation address on 10 February2011 made the following statement. The focus on basic education this year is triple Ti teachers, textbooks and time. W reiterate our call that teachers must be at school, in class, on time, teaching for at least seven hours a day. The following items need to be sorted out namely. Year plan for 2012, budget for 2012, analysis of results and action plan. MMT Workshop based on roles and responsibilities, CAPS time-table foundation phase 2012, grade 7 farewell function. Progression and promotion will be evaluated by department of educa-tion officials, parents will get feedback about analysis of results, evaluate and moderate every task of the school. Push forward the quality teaching and learning campaign classroom management is still not good enough. My colleagues, the education systems in this country is characterized by a number of problems and Phakamisani Primary must stand up, rise and shine to improve literacy and numeracy from grade R to grade 7. in the third term, we achieve lot of things such as academic improvement, cultural activities, sport competition and national teaching award. We can do more if we can work together. Our challenge presently, is to have new school, science laboratory, beautiful vegetable garden, stand on the sport field, fundraising and school hall. In my conclusion, this fourth term I will focus on teachers, teachers must be in class on time and teach learners and classroom management is the first priority.

It was once again a wonderful day, but for the 2nd year in a row, everyone had to endure strong gale force winds. It was challenging for the rafters to row in such awful conditions, but everyone’s spirit was high and they thoroughly enjoyed it. No one was prepared to give up, and every team completed the race, and afterwards there was surely some aching bodies and painful arms and wrists! The MTO Forestry (Boskor) team took the honours as raft race winners, exactly as they did last year. Maybe this team needs a good competitive challenge from someone else? The best designed raft price was awarded to “Die Manne van Staal” Robcon Pennypinchers. Fortunately the award was decided on before the race, as this well designed raft could not outplay the rafts of the MTO Forestry teams. The price for the best team spirit went to Plett Equestrain, Team PEA. With their eye catching t-shirts and war cry, they showed that they indeed had some spirit to conquer the race. PAWS urges pet owners to note: the PARVO virus is a great threat in Plett. at present. This virus is HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS and can be FATAL. Animals 1 YEAR and younger are at greatest RISK. In order to minimize this risk, animals should be VACCINATED ASAP. Symptoms to look out for: No energy; no appetite; vomiting; diarrhoea (usually bloody stools). If your pets exhibit any of the above symptoms, especially if they show no interest in eating for one day, please get them immediate veterinary attention.
