About the AVA

AVA President’s Welcome

THE AVA IS THE PEAK NATIONAL BODY REPRESENTING THE AUSTRALIAN VETERINARY PROFESSION, DELIVERING A RANGE OF SERVICES AND BENEFITS TO OVER 9,500 MEMBERS.

For nearly 100 years, we’ve represented Australian veterinarians nationwide.

Providing our members with access to continuing professional development (CPD) of the highest calibre on the latest scientific thinking is a key focus of the AVA. Our CPD program planning begins up to two years in advance to ensure it includes veterinary science and business training that is interesting, relevant and accessible, so that we maintain a highly skilled veterinary workforce.

Looking ahead we will embrace new technologies to proactively assist our members with more flexible and appropriate learning outcomes.

AVA PresidentDr Paula Parker

The AVA conference is the highlight of my calendar every year. As the largest conference in our region, the conference is years in the planning to give you the very best education, the latest trends, controversies, ideas AND the very best of a rocking good time while you are at it. Not a dry lecture or boxed lunch to be seen. Promise.

The team has put together an impressive line up of speakers, local talent and thought provoking plenaries for our 2018 annual conference. The richness and diversity of the program reflects our organisation and our profession. Regardless of your area of interest, I know that you will learn something, be challenged and be given a whole new perspective. With 8 streams throughout the week, planning your conference can require a military like precision.

Why Attend?Advancing knowledge and skillsThe AVA Annual Conference is a world-class program of speakers from across the globe, sharing all the latest in veterinary science and discussing the topics that are of most interest to you.

You’ll discover exciting innovations that are transforming veterinary care and learn how to adapt and innovate to meet future business and industry demands and challenges. Special interest groups will also lead field trips and workshops giving you more hands-on learning experiences.

As always, the AVA Conference features an extensive social program. Special interest group dinners, happy hours, university alumni events, meet and greets and the conference dinner - these are just a few of the events planned to enable you to gather with colleagues, exchange ideas and share experiences.

The largest trade show in AustraliaThe AVA Conference attracts over 100 exhibitors bringing the latest products and services from around the world to one place. Talk to businesses involved in the veterinary profession to find out how they can support you and your work.

• Carer’s Pass

This year delegates who require a carer in attendance will be provided a Carer’s Pass. These can be requested after registration.

I am particularly looking forward to the VetEd talks, the many panel discussions and hearing from our CVO Mark Schipp to discuss the state of our fight against AMR.

The social program for this conference is also amazing. We are lucky that some of Brisbane’s best venues are right on our doorstop and the team have been at it to make sure that you have plenty of opportunities to catch up, make new connections and get your fill of the foodie scene. When you are planning your conference, make sure you come to the dinner on the last night. This is my favourite dinner of the year, full of the best people, the worst dancing and the most delicious food.

I look forward to seeing you in Brisbane.
