From The Vicar…
Dear Friends, This will be the last letter I write to you as priest in charge of these parishes. I hope you all know by now that I would love to see as many people as possible at my final service which will be at Arlingham on Sept 18th at 11am, to be followed by a bring and share lunch in the barn at Rectory Farm. Please do come!
It will be an opportunity, as well as saying good bye, for me to say thank you to you all. It has been a huge privilege to have served these communities for 26 years as both GP and priest and, for a few years, as both. I am so grateful for your vote of confidence which enabled me to take on this role, and for all the support and encouragement you have given me in undertaking it.
The plan was, that having said goodbye, we would pack up the house and move out of the area to Malvern where my daughter has plans for us in taking a fuller role in looking after the grandchildren, amongst other things. But at the time of writing the house is not sold, neither have we found anywhere to live in the Malvern area.
So it looks as if we will still be around for a little while. However, just as Peter will no longer have a licence to practise as a doctor, I will no longer have permission to officiate at services of any kind, so that means that even if you see me about the village, I am not able to take funerals or weddings etc. Some people may find that hard, but then so will I!
I am confident that we have everything in place for the church to continue to flourish in this place but I know that some people still feel an anxiety about how they will cope. Well, I'll let you into a secret – that daily anxiety has also been part of my life as priest in charge. How will I cope with all that God has laid on me to be and do? I have always drawn comfort from the words which were spoken to Paul in his weakness by the Lord, and perhaps you may find them helpful too: The Lord says,' My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.' (2 Cor. 12.9) As the church in this place moves into a new phase of being, may you know the truth of those words in all that is to come.
Every blessing
Anne
