This exhibition focuses on his remarkable bronze portraits of Welshmen who achieved greatness in all walks of life. Supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and Kingston University.

Until Sun 7 SeptemberWales Visitation: Poetry, Romanticism and Myth in ArtAmerican writer, Allen Ginsberg, visited Wales in 1967. His poem Wales Visitation was inspired by an imagined Celtic past and the landscape and folklore of Wales. This exhibition takes inspiration from Ginsberg’s poem, using works from the Museum’s collection to explore modern and contemporary forms of Romanticism. Featured artists include David Jones, Richard Long, Graham Sutherland and Clare Woods. Supported by the Colwinston Charitable Trust.

Until Sun 7 September Constable: Salisbury Cathedral from the MeadowsOne of his most dramatic landscapes recently purchased by Tate. The display will be complemented by a series of events and learning activities as part of Aspire, a partnership programme enabling audiences of all ages to enjoy and learn more about the work of John Constable by touring Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows 1831 to five UK institutions. Aspire is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Art Fund.

Sat 12 April – Sun 20 JulyLandscapes by JD Innes: Beauty Most WildDuring his brief and tragic life, Welsh artist James Dickson Innes (1887-1914) painted a unique vision of the Welsh landscape in a colourful Post-Impressionist style. The exhibition marks 100 years since the artist’s death. Supported by the Brecknock Art Trust.

Sat 21 June – Sun 7 SeptemberSimon Pope: Primary Agents of a Social WorldA new film installation exploring the shifting relationship between coal and communities in the South Wales Valleys. Supported by the Colwinston Charitable Trust.

Sat 5 July – Sun 26 OctoberRichard Wilson and the Transformation of European Landscape PaintingThis major exhibition marks the 300th anniversary of the birth of Richard Wilson

(1714-1782), perhaps Wales’s greatest artist. Before Wilson, British artists painted the landscape to record its appearance. Wilson showed how landscape paintings could have layers of meaning and convey mood and emotions too. A partnership with the Yale Center for British Art, New Haven, Connecticut, USA.

Sat 19 July – April 2015I Spy... NatureExperience how scientists’ observations lead to new discoveries. A hands-on, family-friendly exhibition

where you can try observing and recording nature. Learn how a Victorian naturalist sketched the natural world, or how scientists image objects in 3-D. Discover how insects view nature differently, or get up close with natural history objects under the microscope.

Sat 2 August – January 2015Efforts and Ideals: Prints of the First World WarA display of 66 lithographs from 1917 commissioned by the Ministry of Information. They provide a fascinating representation of Britain’s war objectives, military activities and effort on the Home Front, including work by Augustus John, Frank Brangwyn, William Rothenstein and C.R.W. Nevinson.

Sat 2 August – Sun 11 January 2015The Welsh and the WarPortraits of people – soldiers, sailors, airmen, politicians and families – whose lives were transformed by the First World War.
