WHELDRAKE WITH THORGANBY GAZETTE AUTUMN TERM WEEK 11 FRIDAY 25 NOVEMBER 2016 Note from Miss Shaw Thank-you to everyone who has supported our joint fundraiser with St Helen’s Church, Wheldrake at St Crux today. Do come along to our Christmas Craſt Fair next Wednesday 30th November 1.20-4.30pm. Stone Age day at Murton On a chilly, wet Monday, Class 3 went to Murton Park to spend the day as Stone Age people. We could hardly walk because we had so many layers on! We went to a Stone Age village and we pre- tended to kill fake animals. We also made poery and we ground flour but it took a long me to make it. Another acvity was doing cave painngs but we did this on pa- per not caves. We drew pictures of Stone Age things and thought about what it was, what is was used for and what it was made from. At the end, the leader, called Stone, told us a story by the fire. It was a good day; it was inter- esng and we learnt a lot. STAR OF THE WEEK Recepon Florence Robinson in recognion of her enthusiasm in every- thing she does and for being a fantasc member of the class! Beatrice Smith in recognion of her enthusiasm in everything she does and for being a fantasc member of the class. Year 1 Oliver Calvert for making a super animaon on the computer. Ruby Harrison for learning all the Navity songs by heart and singing them beaufully. Year 2 Rosie Bradley for her creave poem about a barn owl. She used similes ,metaphors and lots of lovely adjecves. Ruby Gilligan for reading a poem about a lion with lovely fluen- cy and expression. The whole class loved her acons too! Year 3- The whole class for their super behaviour during the trip on Monday –we were all very proud of you! Year 4 Bobby Haley for his impressive work to improve in maths this year. He has made great progress and has shown he can work to a very high standard. Eloise Sadler for her incredible mulplicaon work this week. Her accuracy with 4 digit numbers was amazing! Year 5 Evan Boerill for his super work in mathemacs this week. He has been able to tackle tricky fracons problems and help oth- ers along the way. He is a fracons whizz! Lucy Cook for her exceponal and hardworking atude. She puts 110% into everything she does whilst always having a smile on her face. It is a pleasure to have her in the class. Year 6 Hey Small for making insighul contribuons to guided read- ing discussions. She can use the PEE technique perfectly! Oliver Lockwood for wring an absolutely amazing newspaper report. He always works hard, always has a smile on his face and is making super progress! GOLDEN SPOON AWARD KS1: Robbie Howie KS2: Fern Thompson Here we are practising our farming skills.

Stone Age day at Murton

On a chilly, wet Monday, Class 3 went to

Murton Park to spend the day as Stone Age

people. We could hardly walk because we

had so many layers on!

We went to a Stone Age village and we pre-

tended to kill fake animals. We also made

pottery and we ground flour but it took a

long time to make it. Another activity was

doing cave paintings but we did this on pa-

per not caves. We drew pictures of Stone

Age things and thought about what it was,

from.

At the end, the

Cake sale in aid of Save the Elephants

Three girls in Year 5 called Harriet, Georgie and Grace organised a

cake sale on the 23rd of November to Save the Elephants. When

asked why Harriet, the leader of the group, did it she replied “I did it because I like elephants and I want-

ed to save them. “

When Georgie was asked why she joined Harriet, she commented that she decided to help Harriet be-

cause she was her best friend. Harriet's other best friend Grace said “I did the elephant cake sale because

I love elephants and I would like to save them”

The girls have raised £64 pounds so far.

It's getting towards that time of the year. Christmas is coming, so that means only one thing!! Drum rolls please... It's time for York City Football Club’s Christmas Match Programme Cover Competition 2016!!

We are look for children to design a front cover with a Christmas theme for the Christmas fixture’s match programme. The winning picture will be used for the cover of the December Match Programme – York City FC v Torquay United on 17th December 2016. The Prize!! The winning child will also win a family pass for two adults and two children to come along to Bootham Crescent and watch the game on 17th December 2016 3pm kick off.
