THANK YOU TO THE VILLAGE

TO THE RESIDENTS AND STAFF

When Alec and I came to the Village, we didn’t realize what an excellent choice we had made. We thought we had just changed our old home for a new unit.

Gradually we realized we had done more than acquire a new home; we had acquired a new life style.

The Village was giving us new friends, new interests and new activities.

We never regretted, for a minute, our decision..

This has been reinforced in the last few weeks, when Alec has been so ill.

It has helped me immensely to know that so many of you were concerned and offered me your support

I want to thank the residents and staff for their kindness. I can look forward to a future without Alec, knowing I have good friends in the Village.

Sincerely Dorothy.

Dromkeen Homestead and Sand Sculptures

It was a pleasure to get out of the office and hop into our new bus

with a smashing group of ladies! Destination, Riddles Creek, with

Dani as co pilot off we set. Not really knowing what to expect but

keen to have a day out.

Dromkeen hosts school parties with author's, literacy and reading

days and has resident artists who's works are displayed. The grounds

host regular art exhibitions and currently an exhibition of Sand

Sculptures is on display.

Our group enjoyed a cuppa and some indulged with a cake! Lunch

was limited although very tasty. The sculptures were amazing and

we were led around the display by our guide Rosie, easily accesses by

a wooden walk way. Rosie and her partner Leo who is one of the

sculpture artists have bought other sculptors together to create the

exhibition. Rosie explained how the sand is compacted and then

carved and background information on the artists. The exhibition

tells a story that reveals its self as you move along, imagination is

required. Needless to say our group (mostly gardening group)

managed to engage Rosie a “new gardener” in gardening talk and

gave her tips and advice. We were rewarded with cuttings. The

homestead is surrounded by pine trees and agapanthus and hides

well from the road, it has had a long history of owners and

supporters. On departure we noticed a couple of resident alpacas.

Dromkeen needs a bit of TLC both house and gardens but it was a

good day out.

No trip is complete without a stop over, so we pulled into Woodend

for a shop and refreshments. The bus handled us well and my thanks

to my companions for a nice day out.

Look out for my next adventure, Rochester to see the silo art…….

MORE GORGEOUS GRANDCHILDREN.

A SECOND GRADER CAME HOME FROM SCHOOL AND SAID TO HER GRANDMOTHER, “GRANDMA, WE LEARNT HOW TO MAKE BABIES TODAY.” MORE THAN A LITTLE SURPRISED, GRANDMA TRIED TO KEEP HER COOL”THAT’S INTERESTING’”, SHE SAID. ‘HOW DO YOU MAKE BABIES?’ SHE ASKED

“IT’S SIMPLE “, REPLIED THE GIRL, “YOU JUST CHANGE THE ‘Y’ TO ‘I’ AND ADD ‘ES’”.

WHEN MY GRANDSON ASKED ME HOW OLD I WAS, I EASINGLY REPLIED,”I DON’T KNOW”.

“LOOK IN YOUR UNDERWEAR,GRANDPA” HE ADVISED” MINE SAYS I’M 4 TO 6”.

Volunteers have been hard at work in giving our community garden a facelift. Mulch from a felled tree was put to good use, enhancing soil quality and especially improving the general appearance in the vicinity of the shed. Good to see plot owners planting and seeding in preparation for the favourable weather ahead. Perhaps there is truth in the proverb -- A garden is a friend you can visit anytime -- GH.

Gillian, a local villager, and her daughter Mez are certainly a talented couple. Both are accomplished singers. Mez, who is now on tour, was a feature vocalist at the Golden Vine hotel recently and a few nights later Gillian gave a rousing performance at the Shamrock's karaoke night. -- GH.

Hi everyone,

Another busy month, with pancakes, public holidays and power outages;

fireside chats and tree lopping; sand sculptures and historic homesteads, a

quick trip to Melbourne to see the Flower and Garden Show; NBN installed at

the Post Office (so far so good) and Angus (my son, NOT my dog) turned 15 on

St Patricks Day (complete with visiting Kookaburra).

So that was some of March… bring on April with it’s beautiful weather and

hopeful rain – I’m sure we are all ready to be green again.

13th April is our Spring Gully Market and this one will be huge with over 30 stall holders,

(11 of them newbies), coffee van and food trucks of course and much more… should be a great day so I

hope you all get the chance to come down between 9am and 1pm and have a browse.

We are currently looking for more books for the Community Centre sales bookshelf, so if you have some

that you think may be of interest to other residents and you would like to donate them, please bring

them down and we will pass them on. All money raised from book sales goes to the Social Club.

Just a reminder to please be careful on the corner of Broadway and Francis Street. If you are driving,

you MUST slow down and watch for traffic in all directions. If you are walking, make sure you stop and

double check. This corner can be tricky sometimes and we want you all to be as safe as possible.

Don’t forget to check our website, www.bendigorv.com.au for the most current calendar and Village Voice, and also have a look at the photo gallery, as we are constantly adding pics on to this page. It’s a very simple site to use and I will be updating the entire site soon to hopefully make it even easier and a little more ‘professional’. Have a wonderful April folks – lots more happening this month.

Cheers

Neil

BRV Tech Clinic – Tech Corner Brought to you by Tim and Greta

Tired of Scam Calls? Consider this option…

Many of you have been regularly hounded by scammers calling your landline. If it is getting too

much, consider purchasing a Telstra Guardian phone set. It is cordless and you can have multiple

handsets throughout your home. You start by making sure your landline has Caller-ID enabled.

Then after purchasing the handset kit, you would set-up the main handset with your favourite phone

numbers, including the area code. Then you would register and sync the additional handsets. Any

number not programmed into the phone will get screened (screened callers go through the Guardian

answering system and need to state their name and press the # key before the call will be connected

to you). On your end you hear the name and can choose to block, accept or send the caller to the

answering machine. In reading the forums, people who have NBN say Telstra Guardian works fine.

For new residents, please note that we run a first-come, first-served tech clinic each Thursday from

11am to 1pm in the community centre. We help answer any question or concern you may have with

your mobile device (phone, tablet, or laptop). Our motto: no question is too silly.
