  • WHEN EQUITY IS OPTIONAL ACADEMICACHIEVEMENT IS TOO! EDUCATIONAL EQUITY 101

Presented by: Dr. Sandy D. Womack Jr.,

Area Superintendent for Region III, Columbus City Schools

Educational leaders have struggled to meet the needs of public school students for decades. There are

solutions to increasing the teaching and learning in public schools. The answers start with self-efficacy. James

Baldwin once stated, “Not everything we face can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.”

Educational Equity 101 will challenge educators to look at their beliefs and how they impact the teaching and

learning of students in diverse communities. The core of the course focuses on addressing self-awareness,

socialization, and unconscious biases to work through them and increase student academic achievement.

The course is created for public school educators to develop understanding of mental mindsets, cultural

glasses, stereotypes, and socialization impact on instructional practices. Participants will engage in

discussion, debate, and participate in activities to enhance their professional and personal growth.
