When Tomorrow Starts Without Me
When tomorrow starts without me, and I’m not here to see,
If the sun should rise and find your eyes are filled with tears for me.
I wish so much you wouldn’t cry the way you did today.
While thinking of the many things we didn’t get to say.
I know how much you love me as I love you.
And each time you think of me I know you miss me too.
But when tomorrow starts without me,
Please try to understand that an angel came down
And called my name and took me by the hand
And said my place was ready in heaven far above
And that I’d have to leave behind all those I dearly love.
But as I turned to walk away, a tear fell from my eye.
I knew that this was God’s will. I dare not question “Why?”
I had so much to live for, and so much left to do.
It seems almost impossible that I was leaving you.
I thought of all the yesterdays - the good ones and bad
I thought of all the love we shared and all the fun we had
If I could re-live yesterday I thought for just a while,
I’d say goodbye and kiss you all and maybe see you smile
But then I fully realized that this could never be
For emptiness and memories would take place of me
Now when tomorrow starts without me don’t think we’re far apart
For every time you think of me I’m right here in your heart.

Name: Roosevelt Jackson Born: May 8, 1939 Place of Birth: Irwin County Education: Holt Elementary Occupation: Truck Driver Wife: The late Doris Thomas Jackson Mother: The late Ruth C. Tucker Jackson Father: The late Willie Lee Jackson, Sr. Reside: 602 Shiloh Circle Christian Experience: Member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church Demised: December 30, 2011
At an early age Roosevelt joined St. John Missionary Baptist Church. He joined the usher board and served as the president for several years. He also sang in the Douglas Male Chorus for many years. After dating Doris Thomas, they were married on September 19, 1960. To this union four children were born.
He was a devoted husband and a good provider for his family. He was a great father, brother, and grandfather. He cherished the friendship of many, especially, his neighbor Jr. Speight, with whom he spent many hours talking at the fence daily. He loved all of his brothers dearly but had a very close relationship with his brother and business partner, George. They started off with livestock (hogs) and later started growing vegetables and taking them to the farmer’s market on the weekend. They even delivered vegetables to the sick and shut in. Roosevelt stayed busy. He started working with Harrell’s Funeral Home several years ago and remained a faithful employee until his health failed.
Roosevelt lost his father in 1979, his mother in 2000, his older brothers Willie Lee Jackson, Jr. in 2003 and Archie Thomas in 2005, and his soul mate, Doris Jackson, of 45 years on November 29, 2005.
