As GEOGRAPHERS, we will be looking atAfrica’s place geographically, socially andeconomically. We will look at the world’sbiomesandfocusonthreeofAfrica’siconicareas–TheSerengeti,theSaharaDesertandTheCongolesejungle.WewillalsobelookingattheriverNileandwhy it important for tourism, industry andfarming.Childrenwillalsofindoutabout‘FairTrade’and how it is important for the people ofAfrica.
ARTAsARTISTS childrenwill explore the use ofcolour,qualityoflineandrepetitivepatternsassociated with African art. These will theform part of the back drop for the Y6production.Wewill also look at the use of silhouetteswithinartandcreatesomebeautifulAfricansunsetsusingchalkpastels.
COMPUTINGAsPROGRAMMERSchildrenwillexplorearangeof different functions on scratch – creatinganimationsusingAfricanimagery.Childrenwillalsoworking on their reasoning by debuggingexistingprograms.
DESIGNANDTECHNOLOGYAs DESIGNERS and MAKERS,childrenwillbemakingarangeofprops and items for the Y6production‘PeaceChild’.Using descriptions from thescript,childrenwillresearchthehow to make their own props;sourcing suitable materials andutilising relevant constructionstechniques.
ENGLISHAs READERS and WRITERS,children will be producing arange of fiction and non-fictiontext linked to Africa includingnon-chronological reports,lettersofcomplaint,diariesandpersuasiveadvertisements.Year5 carryingoutandexcitingextended narrative looking theanimatedfilm‘TheLionKing’.
PEAsATHLETESchildrenwillbebusypreparingforsportsday.Theywillbeworkinghardon theiragility,balanceandco-ordinations;applyingthistoanumberoffieldevents.They will be looking at the mechanics ofsprinting and efficient running, as well assuccessfulbatonexchanges.
