• Libya was peaceful at the time of King Idris Alsanusi (1956-19690).

• September 1st 1969: Muammar Gaddafi overthrew the monarchy.

• He destroyed political institutions ,partities, and the constitution.

• He cracked down on anyone whospoke against him.

• On April 7th 1976 Gaddafi hanged people in the streets of Benghazi for demonstrating against him.

• In 1978, Libya began a war against Chad that lastest 10 years.

• On December 21st 1988 Gaddafi ordered bombing of Pan Am flight 103.

• In 1992, Gaddafi ordered bombing of Libyan Arab Airlines 1103.

• In 1996, Gaddafi ordered the killing of 1200 men in Abu Saleem Prison.

• In the Late 1990’s Gaddafi ordered that 450 babies in the city of Benghazi be infected with HIV/AIDS virus.
