Along with their questions about navigation and surviving the ocean waters, they also sent over their “Writing-Project” dog, Hoku, hoping she could get on- board to sail along with the crew members. When the school year came to a close, it was disappointing to not yet hear from the crew members about Hoku. The students concluded that the crew members were probably just very busy trying to navigate the vast, open waters of the Pacific Ocean, and maybe they would respond in the next school year? Just a few days after school ended, an email was sent from crew member, Hye Jung Kim. She is an Education Specialist from Iolani Schools. She had great news! Hoku made it to Australia, on board the Hokule`a! Hye Jung Kim took a picture with Hoku after a welcoming ceremony at Minjerriba Islands in Australia. She said that Hoku and the crew members had a wonderful visit with the Quandamooka people of Australia. Hoku also got to visit Cleveland State High School in Australia. Here is a picture of Hoku and Hokule`a crew members, Haunani and Kawika. Hye Jung returned back to `Oahu in July, but she handed over Hoku to another crew member of the Hokule`a. Hoku is now with Kaiwi, another Educational Specialist. Hye Jung states that Kaiwi will contact the 4 th graders and share more “adventures” with Hoku. WELCOME BACK ASSEMBLY All of our students and staff met in the cafeteria for our Welcome Back Assembly. The assembly included information about the school fundraiser, the importance of being in school every day, the installation of this year's student council officers, and an introduction of new teachers and staff. The highlight of the assembly may have been when we watched the new staff attempt to do the "Whip."

GARDEN CLUB SIGN UPS

Garden Club time is finally here!

We are finally ready to start our new and improved Garden Club!

This year we will be taking four students from K-6th to be part of

the club. We wish we could take more but there is only so much

room. If your child is interested please have them speak to their

homeroom teacher. Teachers will put a list together and then

select students by 9/18/2015. Permission forms for selected

students will then follow. Garden Club will be held Mondays and

Fridays from 2:15pm to 3:00pm and will begin after fall break on

10/16/2015. We encourage only students that can be committed

to attending sign up. Happy gardening!
