    What is White Balance?

    White Balance is the course of action oferadicating unrealistic colour casts beforetaking a photo. This process will renderthe objects, which appear white in person,to appear white in the photo.

    What it does

    White Balance will help film colours underthe light of a camera accurately, undervarious lighting conditions.

    Proper camera white balance will take intoaccount the colour temperature of alight source, referring to the relativewarmth or coolness of white light.

    Here is an example ofa cameras poor abilityto colour cast.

    Auto White Balance

    Auto white balance allows for a range ofcolour temperatures.

    If you press this button, the camera willautomatically select white balance for you.

    Auto White Balance Example

    If the photo containsat least one white orbright colorlesselement, it is oftenmore effective.Without the boat inthe image, thecameras AWBmistakenly created animage with a slightlywarmer colourtemperature.

    Tungsten

    Tungsten also closely mimics thedistribution of light created byblackbodies.

    If you press this button, the camera willautomatically select a white balancesetting for indoors.

    Custom White Balance

    If you press this button, you will be ableto set your white balance manually.

    Custom white balance allows you to take apicture of a known gray reference underthe same lighting, and then set that as thewhite balance for future photos.

    1. Obtain a white surface of anykind. Then point the camera at adiagonal angle of 45 towards thiswhite surface.

    If you want to gain alighter colour cast, then agood way of doing this isby putting a sheet of whitepaper in front of thecamera, after you haveselected the Custom WBoption. Take it away after

    the icon has stoppedflashing on the camera,and the white balanceshould be set. Custom White Balance

    Auto White Balance Evaluation

    For the outside shot of AWB, the cameraoccasionally shook, but there was a smoothrotation of the camera as it focused on theoutside setting of windows, benches, roofs,and other props. There were two peoplewalking in front of the camera, which may

    have affected the cameras white balancescolour temperature.

    Auto White Balance Evaluation

    For the inside shot of AWB, the camerashot gives a good rotational portrayal ofthe inside hallway, with a number ofdifferent props stationed in the shot.There was a view of the outside in thedistance, but did not affect the colour

    temperature.

    Daylight Evaluation

    For the outside shot of Daylight, thecamera occasionally slowed down, but itkept at the same height level as it rotated.The camera then occasionally sped up, notkeeping at a steady pace throughout mostof the shot.

    Daylight Evaluation

    For the inside shot of Daylight, the colourtemperature changed completely. Thecolour had turned much darker, andstayed that particular colour throughoutthe whole shot. Notably, the outside lightin the background did not change. The

    camera speed was steady, and stayed atthe same pace for the whole period of theshot taken.

    Tungsten Evaluation

    For the outside shot of Tungsten, thecolour temperature changed completely.The temperature had a low wavelength ofaround 450nm, with the cast colourchanging to a light blue colour. Thecamera was steady throughout the shot

    until the end of the shot, when it joltedand stopped briefly.

    Tungsten Evaluation

    For the inside shot of Tungsten, the colourtemperature changed, with the colour castbecoming milder, and the reflectivewindows becoming a light blue colour, justlike the outside shot of Tungsten. Theshot is particularly fast but kept at a

    steady pace.

    Custom White Balance

    For the outside shot of Custom WB, thecolour temperature became brighter.There were a high amount of whitesettings in the shot, which became evenbrighter as the Custom WB wasintroduced. The camera continuously sped

    up and slowed down, with the cameraheight kept at a steady pace.

    For the inside shot of Custom WB, thecolour temperature did not change, butthe quality of viewing the particularsettings had decreased. It had becomeharder to make out the settings in theshot. The camera speed was kept at a

    steady pace throughout the shot, whilstkeeping at the same height level for thewhole time.
