    WHITE DIAMOND

    SCENE 1: Farewell!

    (Susan goes onstage with her father. She is going to the city to pursue his dream: to become a famous star. In order to do so, she must leave her family and everyone sheloves behind)

    Susan: Dad, don t forget to ta!e care of the fishes, sort out the clothes properly beforewashing them, pay "r. #obinson for the mil! delivery and$.

    Dad: Susan, I am not a child anymore. I am your father and I already !now how tomanage. Don t worry about me% I am more concerned about you and how you are goingto do in &ew 'or!. It is a big city and with all that people living there$ It is verydifficult for me to let you go.

    Susan: I !now you worry Dad, but I ll be fine.

    Dad: 'ou have grown up so uic!ly$ I can still remember you as a baby, holding youin my arms.

    Susan: Dad, I will always be your baby. 'ou !now that. ut we have tal!ed about thismany times. If I want to be happy, I have to do this or at least try it. I need to showmyself that I can be a singer. I don t care about fame. I *ust want to show the world thatI can do it.

    Susan: It s the /ocomotion. "y friends and me used to sing and dance it when we wereon the train as we were little children. e used to sing it when we felt blue to cheer usup and now that I am moving to &ew 'or! on my own I am singing it to feel better.

    ("usic starts and the passengers start singing and dancing with her)

    (Susan has arrived to the ig 4pple. She is going to drama school to learn in order to become a good singer and an actress. It is her first day in school. 5here she will "illie,the daughter of a famous actress who has had everything in life, a spoiled girl who willtry and ma!e fun of anyone who has not had the luc! of being born in a rich and famousfamily)

    Millie: atric! have you already called your father6.

    Patrick: &o, "illie I have been really busy

    Millie: Don t give me your e7cuses. I need the limousine to go shopping this afternoonand mum s too busy with the new film. 'ou promised you would ta!e me today to5iffany s. I really need to see which *ewels I am going to wear for this end of year s

    play.

    (Susan enters)
