Free LED Down Lights to Replace Halogen (Switch to Save) ‘Switch to Save’ is a Bendigo Bank initiative that aims to replace every energy-thirsty halogen down lights in our community with

energy efficient LED down lights for FREE.

For every light replaced in our community’s homes and businesses, Bendigo Bank will donate $1 to our school.

Here are some important things to know about Switch to Save:

Switch to Save is available to everyone in our community, not just Bendigo Bank customers

On average, more than $500 a year can be saved by switching to LED down lights

Lights are replaced by a local, qualified electrician

Switch to Save is possible thanks to the State Government’s Victorian Energy Efficiency Target (VEET).

There are also massive environmental benefits. For every 1000 households who participate in Switch to Save, we’ll save 17,000

tonnes of carbon going into the atmosphere. That’s equivalent to taking 5,600 cars off the road for one year!

A brochure has been sent home to all families today. Complete the registration form in the brochure and return it to the school

office or the Bendigo Bank White Hills Branch. Registrations close on 21st August, 2015. Terms and conditions can be viewed at

www.bendigobank.com.au/switchtosave or call the White Hills Branch on 54414944.

Children’s eSafety Commission The Office of the Children’s eSafety Commissioner was established on 1 July 2015 to handle complaints about cyberbullying

material targeted at Australian children.

The Office can investigate complaints about material considered likely to have a seriously threatening, intimidating, harassing or

humiliating effect on a child. Where possible, the material should be reported to the social media service first, before it is

complained about to the Office. To consider a complaint the Office will need evidence of the cyberbullying material.

Parents, along with schools and the government have a role in ensuring children are protected online. The Office will work with

social media services, parents and schools to ensure serious cyberbullying material is removed. For more information click on this

SchoolKids Bonus: Second Instalment Paid For eligible families, the second instalment of the SchoolKids Bonus has been paid. The intent of this payment is to cover schooling

costs. Parents can utilise these funds to pay for outstanding school charges or school camps/excursions.

Wet Clothing: Parents Phoned

With the spate of wet weather, there are areas of the school yard that are quite damp. Classroom teachers remind children to stay

away from puddles and wet areas. We have cordoned off certain areas and duty teachers are keeping children away from these

spots. The office stock of clothing is limited and is not for the purpose of changing children who are wet and muddy. If your child

is wet or muddy we will phone you to bring dry clothes to the school. We appreciate your support in encouraging your children to

stay dry at school.

Lost Property There is a large amount of lost property in the box located near the office. Most of these are unnamed. Please make sure all items of

clothing are clearly named, especially jackets as students tend to take them off whilst playing outside. If unnamed items are left in

the lost property box for more than 4 weeks, they are passed on to the sickbay or charity.

2016 Prep Students: Enrol Now All Prep students for 2016 should have been

Further details are available at the school office or

phone 54430799.

Keeping Kids Safe Part 2: Using the Internet From an article from "Parenthood" by Robin Barker.

Internet safety is now a major concern, particularly the possibility of children being lured and groomed by paedophiles on the

internet. Other safety issues include cyber-bullying, children posting unsuitable personal images and giving out identifiable

information to strangers. Here is an internet safety checklist from NetAlert.

*Talk to your family about the importance of staying safe online and the need to have an internet safety plan at home.*Keep the

computer in a public area of the house so it's easier for you to supervise. * Make sure you have safety software installed on your

computer .NetAlert can give you advice on what to choose. *Discuss the benefits and risks of going online with our children and

reassure them that you're there to help if they get into trouble. *Create an internet-safety contract with your children and set up

house rules for internet use. Teach your children to make the right decisions and increase their responsibility levels as they get older.

White Hills PS Chaplaincy Introducing Narelle Windridge

I am delighted to be part of

the wonderful White Hills

Primary school community

sharing with the teaching

team, caring for children,

creating a happy safe

nurturing environment so

that children learn and

thrive in all areas of their

lives.

There are 4 R’s that

children seek to master,

Reading, (W)riting, (A)rithmetic and most

importantly Relationships. I can assist your

children by providing Pastoral care services in

the playground, in class with various activities delivered by teachers; enhancing wellbeing programs that support the Whole child in

all areas of their development (Social, Emotional); delivering programs that build resilience, offering assistance to feel safe, valued

and connected to their school community.

I have worked with Primary school aged children in a variety of settings and have qualifications in Family counselling and

Community Services Welfare work.

The role of a chaplain is diverse and encompasses many different areas of Pastoral care for families who are experiencing

difficulties with separation, grief and loss, financial stress, relationships and health issues.

I can offer support to parents to find specialized services; referrals to gain tools and in equipping parents assisting with parenting

tools to gain confidence feel and produce resilient, competent and successful individuals.

I can assist with connection to local Community Family, children & youth groups; also churches for dedication ceremonies,

baptism, weddings and funerals.

Please contact me at school (ph 54430799) on Wednesdays and Fridays so that I can assist you, or be someone to have a friendly

chat with.

Yours sincerely

Narelle Windridge WHPS School Chaplain

In accordance with National School Chaplaincy Program guidelines all primary school students require signed consent, by a parent, prior to the

Prep News Pupil of the Week Congratulations to Taylah H, Kohen B, Charlotte and Kacee T, our Prep ‘Pupils of the Week’ for this week. These Preps are

becoming confident and persistent in completing class activities. Well done!

Prep Incursion: Payment due tomorrow 4.00pm

Next Wednesday, 29th

July, Wild Action Productions will be bringing their Australian Animal workshop to WHPS. The

workshop is a safe, hands-on wildlife experience for Prep students only. Each grade will attend the workshop for an hour session.

The cost of the session is $12.00 per child. This incursion and another in Term 4 will replace the Prep excursion.

Payment of $12.00 is to be made to the office or on Qkr before 4.00pm tomorrow Friday, 24th

July. No late payments will be

accepted in accordance with WHPS policy.

NB: If you have applied and qualify for the new Camps, Sport & Excursions Fund (CSEF), the cost of this incursion will be

covered in full. Please contact the office for further details.

Prep Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) Due to the sport’s shed being used for production practice on Monday afternoon and the Preps attending gym on Mondays for the

last 4 weeks of Term, we will not be able to have PMP this term. Thank you to those parents who have offered to help this term.

Term 3 Integrated Unit Our Term 3 unit of work will focus on Indigenous Australians and the importance of Australian animals in their culture. You may

like to look for books, pictures, DVDs or information on the Internet about Indigenous Australians and Australian animals and bring

them along to school to share with us.

School Uniform We have noticed over the past term that many children are not wearing the correct school uniform. As stated in our school policy

correct school uniform is compulsory. This means children are to dress in only navy or pale blue shirts, navy pants without stripes

and logos, and navy jumpers or jackets. The school uniform does not include coloured jackets, tights, leggings and skivvies that are

not navy or pale blue. If your child attends school out of uniform they will be changed into the correct school uniform using clean,

spare clothes or you will be contacted to bring up the correct uniform for your child.

Hint for the Week 1. Have a set morning routine. Kids thrive on routine and a structured morning routine will set your child up for the day,

remembering that it should always include a big, nutritious breakfast. If your usual routine includes television, just be aware that

children who watch TV in the morning are not in the right frame of mind for school. Instead, give your child responsibilities to

increase their independence, such as making their beds or packing their own bags.

2. Be on time every time. Teachers love parents who respect bell times explaining that being late to school means your child walks

into a lesson that is already underway. It is embarrassing for your child, they miss out on important instructions and learning and it

can take them a while to settle down and focus on the lesson.

Grade 3 News Student of the Week 3/N –Lachie T for riding your bike independently

3/W – Jordyn Lee B for making an extra effort with her handwriting. This week her handwriting was awesome!

3/O – Emma P for riding her bike unassisted for the first time ever, demonstrating bravery, persistence and concentration.

Bike Education Bike Ed is continued this week with some great activities completed by the two groups. We are focussing on some specific riding

skills to build up confidence in beginning riders and to make them steady and predictable and in control of their bike. Thank you to

all the parent helpers who attended, your support is greatly appreciated.

The session times are

Monday: 11.30 AM – 1.30 PM 3W and Group 1 from 3N.

Tuesday: 11.30 AM – 1.30 PM 3O and Group 2 from 3N

Students need to have their bike on those days. If they are unable to bring their bike we have 10 spare bikes in the Vic-roads trailer

which they can borrow but they will NEED TO BRING THEIR HELMET.

A reminder that bikes are only to be ridden inside the school grounds during supervised Bike Ed lessons. At the end of the day all

bikes are to be WALKED out of the school. Could parents please remind their children to follow these important safety rules.

Camp Camp medical forms and behaviour agreements were due this week. We have a lot of outstanding notes which makes it difficult for

planning and filling in the required paperwork for the department of education. Please ensure these are completed and handed to

your classroom teacher as soon as possible.

A reminder that all camp payments are due to be finalised by the Tuesday, 8th

September.

Friday Program This term the Grade 3 unit will be working in co-

operative groups using a program called monkey jam.

This is an animation program that involves developing

a script and then using the stop motion program to

bring it to life. The qualification for participation is

having their homework completed and handed in on

Thursday and they need to have read a minimum of

three nights with their reading log signed. We hope

parents can encourage their children to complete their
