Who We Are Open Arms Care Center, Inc. is a not-for- profit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt corporation whose mission is to feed the hungry and care for the neediest members of the communities it serves. The organization is staffed by a group of dedicated volunteers, many of whom are recipients of its programs, who believe in the caoncept of neighbors helping neighbors. The organization has three core service functions, including the operation of an emergency food pantry and a soup kitchen in the Riverhead area, as well as providing health screenings to citizens across eastern Long Island. Open Arms also distributes distributes clothing items to needy families and participates in the Toys for Tots program. distributes Toys for Tots, food baskets, coats and other clothing. What We Do Emergency Food Pantry The Open Arms Food Pantry is located at First Baptist Church of Riverhead at 1018 Northville Turnpike. Individuals and families who have an emergency need are referred to us by churches, social service agencies and other human service organizations in their communities. Soup Kitchen The Open Arms Soup Kitchen is located at 103 First Street in Riverhead at First Congregational Church (Riverhead Railroad Station at 200 Railroad Street). The soup kitchen is open all year long, serving hot lunches Monday-Friday from 12:00 noon until 1:30 p.m. The facility serves over 100 lunches daily. During the winter months, especially when there are school closings and during the holiday seasons, the soup kitchen typically serves an average of 150 free meals daily. What You Can Do As a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt corporation, funding and support for Open Arms programs comes primarily from donations provided by individuals, corporations, community organizations and food banks, including Island Harvest, and Long Island Cares, the Harry Chapin Food Bank. The organization relies heavily on individual and corporation monetary donations. Tax-deductible contributions can be sent to: Open Arms Care Center, Inc. 1018 Northville Turnpike Riverhead, NY 11901 Food donations are also welcomed, including all canned goods, pasta, rice, cereals, dry milk and any other non- perishable food.
