State of the Web
The group of Nigerian scammers are equivalent to the Italian Mob. A smallring of highly intelligent, vastly connected criminals with access to a wide
variety of resources and technologies.
While on the whole, instances of cybercrime perpetrated by Nigerians are
small compared to those perpetrated by other developed nations
worldwide, the degree of monetary loss is evidently significant.
There is proof to demonstrate that a large amount of fraud allegedly
perpetrated by Nigerians, actually does NOT emanate from within the
Country, and there is insufficient evidence to determine the extent of this
identity mismatch.
The massive calumny on Nigeria over instances of cybercrime is not
entirely deserved. The global media has repeatedly ignored the role that
the greed, imbecility and pure criminal intent of most victims of Advanced
Fee Fraud (419) has played in making them easy and pliable marks.
