"Why Supplications are Veiled"

FRIDAY SERMON

• Which means:• “O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. And if you disagree over anything, refer it to Allah and the Messenger, if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is the best [way] and best in result.”

• Dear brothers,• Let us fear Allah swt, hopefully with taqwa we will get pleasure from it and be happy in this world and in the hereafter. The title for our sermon today is "Why Supplications are Veiled".

• Dear muslimin,• Indeed, praises and praying to Allah, begging for mercy and protection is one way or effort towards getting closer to Him and signs of our increased faith and taqwa to Allah swt.

• Supplication  is a request or demand for something with what we wished for or sought refuge in Allah Almighty to avert any disaster. 

• Allah Almighty has ordered His servants to always pray and ask from Him, as the word of Allah in Surah Ghafir ayah 60 reads at the beginning of the sermon, which means:

• And your Lord says, "Call upon Me; I will respond to you." Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible. 

• My brothers in Islam,• Supplication has a lot of advantages. By constantly praying it proves that we are weak creatures, despicable, has no power, and always expect help from Allah SWT. 

• In addition, we will always have Allah SWT with us to obtain mercy and His pleasure, Allah will make it easy in all that we do and in all our affairs and kept away from disaster.

• By supplicating we can also eliminate feelings of pride, conceit and arrogance because those that are confident for success with just hard work without the need to pray to Allah is a sign of people who are arrogant towards Allah SWT. Allah says in Surah Ghafir 60:

• Dear brothers,• Advantages or virtues of supplication  is so large and numerous, through supplication, we obtain forgiveness and mercy from Allah. 

• Through supplication  offered we can also  avoid misfortune and hardship. 

• If Allah wills and listens to His servant, no one can stop Him with any power, and Allah will not disappoint the sincerity of those who supplicate.

• Know that those who supplicate is at an advantage, this is clearly stated in the hadith:

• “Your Lord Allah is the Possessor of Modesty and He is Generous. When His servant reaches out to Him with outstretched hands, He feels ashamed to leave that servant with nothing.” (Sunan al‐Tirmidhī)

• How many people are supplicating, but at the same time consciously or not such that they do things that cause his supplication to be rejected and not accepted by Allah. 

• Therefore we need to know what is the cause or reason our supplications are not accepted:

• First: those who pray it is not loved by Allah because they ignore Allah's orders and prohibitions. 

• The love of Allah SWT will not be obtained except by getting closer to Him. 

• No better way and are favoured by Allah but by doing whatever He commanded.

• Second: Be conscious of what you eat, drink and of your clothing whether it is from halal or haram means. 

• From Abu Huraira r.a the Messenger of Allah said:

• Then he (i.e. the Prophet) made mention of a man who is constantly in journeys and has dishevelled hair and dusty appearance and he raises his hands towards the sky saying “O my Rabb. O my Rabb”.

• But his food is from haraam. His drink is from haraam. His clothes are from haraam. He is nourished from haraam. How can it (his prayer) be accepted?” 

• (Narrated by Muslim)

• Third: Ignore the responsibility to call people to do good and forbidding evil. 

• It is the duty of every Muslim to prevent  misguidance in any form that occurs in a society, according to the abilities and powers available to them. 

• Letting injustice rampant not only causes veiled prayers but will be hindered too, it even brings disaster and punishment.

• Fourth: Those who do not repent of the sins that have been committed. Repentance is the opening of the door of mercy by Allah SWT and closing the door of punishment in the world and the hereafter.

• Fifth: Easily despaired and thought prayer will not be granted, due to impatience in withstanding the test of Allah SWT.

• Sixth: Not earnest in your supplication,  heedless and not confident it will be granted by Allah.

• As the servants of Allah who do not lose hope and always hoping for the mercy of Allah in this world and the hereafter; we must supplicate all the time, not during hard times only but during good times. Insha Allah, Allah will answer our supplications during our hard times.

• From Abu Hurairah r.a , the Messenger of Allah said:

• “ Those who like Allah to fulfil their supplication while in distress, thus let him increase his supplcation while at ease.” 

• (Sunan Tirmidzi)

• My dear brothers,• So let us together strive and refrain from things that can cause our supplication to be rejected by Allah Almighty. 

• Allah SWT says in Surah Al‐A'raf verse 55 and 56:

• Call upon your Lord in humility and privately; indeed, He does not like transgressors. 

• And cause not corruption upon the earth after its reformation. And invoke Him in fear and aspiration. Indeed, the mercy of Allah is near to the doers of good. 

O servant of Allah, remember that this world is a place for temporary lodging. Truly, hereafter is the everlasting and permanent abode. So let us devote to Allah for obtaining happiness and escape from the punishment of 

hellfire.

• Allah says in Surah Al Ahzab verse 56:

• Which means:“Indeed Allah confers blessing upon the prophet and His angels (ask Him to do so). O! You who have believed, ask Allah to confer blessing upon him and ask Allah to grant him peace.”

• Let us pray that may Allah SWT beplease with the khalifahs ofRasulullah s.a.w i.e Sayyidina AbuBakr al‐Siddiq r.a., Sayyidina Umaral‐Khattab r.a., Sayyinda Uthman ibnAffan r.a., Sayyidina Ali ibn AbiThalib r.a.

• And to his companions who struggle to upholdthe religion of Allah, also to his uncles SayyidinaHamzah and Sayyidina Abbas r.a. and to hisgranchildren Sayyidina Hassan and SayyidinaHussain r.a., his daughters Sayyidatina Fatimah al‐Zahraa’, his wives Sayyidatina Khadijah andSayyidatina Aisyah r.a. and the other wives.Followed by his family, companions, followers ofthe companions and those who come after themfrom time to time until the end of the world.

• O Allah, forgive all Muslims and believers,whether surviving or deceased. O Allah, grantus glory and prosperity to those who fight andspend their wealth in your way such as thosewho pay zakat, waqaf etc.

• Ya Allah, bestow your guidance and help to the leaders and kings of the Muslim countries especially to Abdaka Al‐Harith Lishariatika Al‐Sultan  Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Al‐Sultan Iskandar, the Sultan and ruler for the State of Johor Darul Takzim.

• And to Raja Zarith Sofea Binti Al‐MarhumSultan Idris Shah, Tengku Ismail Ibn SultanIbrahim, Pemangku Raja Johor and, the Princeand Princess, the royal kinship, and allMuslims.
