Letter from the Advisor
Dear WMS Community Member,
It is an honor and a privilege to work with our middle school students and staff to produce the WMS Wildcat Word,
the PawPrint, slides for the education channel, and the yearly school summary report for the WMS community.
This is my 38th year in education, and I feel that it is going to be the best year ever!
The WMS Wildcat Word was published every other week last year. This year, we are going to do our best to publish
every full week of the school year, starting with this issue. The issue will go out each Sunday so that we may
include the most up-tp-date information to parents and students as they plan for the week.
The purpose of this publication is to help keep you informed of what is going on at Waccamaw Middle School with
academics, clubs and teams, and appropriate activities that are happening in the community. We count on
teachers, coaches, club advisors, and community members to send us news and information on a regular basis so
that we can help to get the word out to all members of the WMS community. If you have more complete
information than we have, please do not hesitate to email me so that we may include it!
Back issues of the Wildcat Word are available on our website, along with our school calendar. Thank you so much
for taking time to read our publication. Please send news, comments, questions, and suggestions to
[email protected]. We enjoy serving you!
Sincerely,
Debbie Gouldin, Wildcat Publications Advisor
WMS Science Teachers Thank Mrs. Ulmer
Eaddy for Donation to WMS Science Classes
The WMS eighth grade science teachers received a very generous donation this year. Mrs. Cynthia Crisp got a phone call before classes began from Mrs. Ulmer Eaddy, a retired science teacher. She was looking for someone to give her collection of rocks and minerals to. Mrs. Kathie Rasheed and Mrs. Crisp happily agreed to take the collection. After many trips to and from Mrs. Eaddy's home, the collection was moved to WMS. These rocks and minerals will be very beneficial for lab investigations into the rock cycle and how minerals play a part in our everyday lives. Students will be able to see the rocks they study first-hand, in addition, the collection is an absolutely beautiful addition to the classroom. Thank you very much Mrs. Eaddy!

First WOW! Stamp Drawing Held
WMS held its first WOW! Stamp drawing of the year today! Tickets were sold during first block class at a cost of five stamps per ticket. Winners were drawn for a gift card that was picked up by the winners at the end of the day.
This weeks winners were:
Gabby Paglio, top right, who received a $5 Starbucks gift card.
Will Teeples, bottom right, who received a $5 Sonic gift card.
WOW! Stamps are incentives for good behavior that are issued by teachers and staff members to students. The stamps are placed in the student's agenda and may be spent on drawing tickets and other prizes throughout the year.
Congratulations to Friday's winners! Watch for next weeks winners here! 3

Waccamaw Library Presents Sticks & Stones Show
10
Sticks and Stones is a light hearted romp through a serious
epidemic our children are facing today. The highly acclaimed
performance illuminates and educates students on the issue of
BULLYING. Told in Porkchop's signature whimsical style, this play
addresses the major steps to implement when confronted with a
bully, and focuses on recognizing a bully, avoidance, non-aggressive
confrontation, telling vs. tattling, self-confidence, why people
become bullies, and humor in the face of adversity.
Porkchop has worked closely with several community and state
organizations in North and South Carolina to obtain the most
effective and comprehensive information to design a performance
that will inspire and educate, as well as entertain.
