Manali Sanctuary

Located a few kilometers from the main town, the Manali Sanctuary is spread across a sprawling area of 3,180 hectares. Established in the year 1954, the area was declared a sanctuary under the Punjab Birds and Wild Animals Protection Act, 1933. The sanctuary is a famous wildlife destination for travelers in Manali. The major wildlife attractions here are Musk deer, Brown bear, Snow leopard, Himalayan Black Bear, Barking Deer, Himalayan Palm Civet, Flying Fox, and Goral. Some of the other species found here are Indian Hare, Leopard, Stripped Hyena, Serow, Himalayan yellow throated Marten, Kashmir flying Squirrel and Himalayan Tahr. The flora here comprises Deodar, Kail, Horse Chestnut, Walnut, and Maple. The dense forest cover makes the sanctuary a lush green hotspot. The best time to visit the Manali sanctuary is October and February.

Great Himalayan National Park

The Great Himalayan National Park is situated in the region of Kullu in the state of Himachal Pradesh that was constructed in the year 1984. The national park is spread across an area of 1,171 km2 at an altitude ranging from 1500 to 6000 m. The National park comprises 375 fauna species like mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, annelids, mollusks and insects. In addition to this the flora here comprises lofty pines, spruces, horse chestnuts, cushion plants, and alpine herbs & junipers.
