Early Vote at Village Hall

In-Person Early Voting for the March 18, 2014 General Primary Election will be conducted at the Village Hall March

3-14, 2014. Voting hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday, no Saturday hours. In order to vote at the Village Hall, you must live in the Village and in Will County. e Village will also conduct early voting for all of Plain"eld

Important Information Regarding Your Utility Bill

Following the City of Chicago’s 15% in‐crease in water rates for wholesale users in 2014, the Village Board approved a 6.3% increase in the Village’s water and wastewater rates. Residents with average water usage (800 cubic feet per month) will see an increase of approximately $4.40 per month. e rate increase will be re$ected on March utility bills. IDOT Work Notice

IDOT is updating traffic signals and in‐stalling energy efficient LED bulbs at the following intersections: IL-59 at 143rd St.; IL-59 at Plain"eld-Naperville Rd.;

IL-59 at 135th St.; IL-59 at Meijer; US-30 at 135th St.; IL-59 at 119th St.; and IL-59 at 127th St. e estimated completion date for the project is July 2014. ere will be daytime lane and shoulder closures at the intersections where work is being performed. Drivers should expect delays. Please drive care‐fully!

Business Sense with Elizabeth Flowers Editor

Last week, Scoop.it released the official #leancontent framework. e lean con‐tent ideology addresses the issue of knowing a content strategy is necessary but not having enough money to send a man into space a la RedBull; content strategy for the rest of us, if you will. ere are many components of develop‐ing a successful and impacting lean con‐tent strategy, including testing different types of content, repurposing content for various platforms, building a community contribution program, and curating ex‐isting content.

Working with a lean content methodolo‐gy for almost an entire year has allowed me to discover many useful tools to en‐sure that your content comes with both the lowest cost and highest impact possi‐ble, and I’d like to share some of them with you.

Buffer

Buffer is every digital marketer’s dream. It’s a tool that allows you to pick times during the day that you want your social media posts to be sent out and, once you’ve found your content, does all the work for you. Buffer isn’t your average scheduling app, though. Once you’ve "g‐ured out the best times to post on social media, you set these times just once, in‐stead of having to schedule each of your posts. If you install the bookmarklet or browser extension, all you have to do is click on it, and the piece of content you’re looking will automatically be sent out at the next available time slot. Per‐sonally, I spend 30 minutes each morn‐ing curating the content that I’ll be shar‐ing on social media that day, sending it into my Buffer, and using the extra 5 minutes to enjoy a coffee.

ere are so many aspects of SlideShare that make it lean. For one, it’s a great platform to use to share visual content, which is arguably the leanest of all. It’s shareable, repurposable, and easily di‐gestible. Not only can you post presenta‐tions on SlideShare, but you can also share infographics, PDF documents, and even videos. Even if this platform isn’t

the only place you’re posting your con‐tent, you can leverage its existing – and notably large – community as an addi‐tional distribution network.

Ask Your Target Market

People love numbers. It’s one thing to make a claim, but it’s a whole different ballgame when there are real statistics involved. Ask Your Target Market has three product levels that can help you gather statistics and data, whether it be for market research or compelling con‐tent. e "rst, and most lean, level is an expert to cra your survey, an audience (de"ned by your parameters) to take the survey, and the tools to create it. e sec‐ond level allows you to use the creation tools and audience gathering while you write your own survey, and the third simply allows you to create a survey and administer it to whomever you wish. e leanest thing about AYTM is that it’s ex‐tremely targeted and allows you to de"ne exactly what you want to "nd out before you even begin, eliminating wasted time siing through data to "nd something that might be compelling to your audi‐ence.

Five Second Test

One of the biggest time-wasters that comes with website and content creation is deciding on the best layout. Everyone has their opinion; put this here, put that there. Lean marketers, though, don’t have the time to spend arguing which side of the page that tiny button should be on. Five Second Test is a quick & dirty way to "nd out how potential audi‐ences will react to your site and/or page within the "rst "ve seconds of seeing it. Just upload your mockup, set the target demographics and a few things you want to "nd out from the viewers, and within minutes you’ll have responses and know what worked and what didn’t. When it comes down to it, readers aren’t going to stay on your site for longer than "ve sec‐onds if their attention isn’t caught, so don’t waste your time guessing what will do the trick – "nd out in real time.

Scoop.it

Scoop.it is a content curation platform that allows you to share content on your topic of expertise. Creating original con‐tent is an integral part of any successful content strategy, but it’s not easy to be doing this multiple times per day. If you want to stay visible and top of mind to your audience, you need to be putting

out information in the form of digital content and social media posts consis‐tently throughout the day and the week. Pairing curation with your content cre‐ation strategy is a lean way to "ll the gaps between original pieces of content created by your brand. Scoop.it contains a suggestion engine which takes away the pain of having to search the internet for relevant content to share – instead, all of the content on your topic is right in front of you. en, in one click, you can publish a link to this content along with your insight (for context) and send it to all of your social networks. In the pro‐cess, you’re not only staying visible to your audience, but you’re becoming a thought leader as well!

Visual.ly

Visual.ly is a great lean content market‐ing tool in a way similar to that of SlideShare. It’s a place to host your info‐graphics and leverage another existing community to share your content with. Further, using Visual.ly will remind you and your content team to focus on visual content and create it as oen as you can. Some tips for lean infographics include not thinking too much about fancy graphics, separating statistics clearly so that it’s easy for the reader to share them, and organizing the infographic into easi‐

ly shareable sections that can exist with‐out the other ones (hello, repurposing!).

Studio

If you have a phone and are a digital or social content manager, you need to download Studio. It’s a photography app that’s set up similarly to Instagram, but is more design-focused. With Studio, you can upload a base image to start, and then overlay text, effects, or pre-existing designs on the simple mobile interface. It’s like a stripped version of Photoshop to go! Personally, I’ve used Studio to cre‐ate content at my desk, on the bus, or walking to get lunch. It’s that simple – and remains engaging and informative.

Reserves D.J. Augustin and Taj Gibson combined for 48 points on 18-of-30 shooting as the Bulls beat the Detroit Pistons 105-94 for their "h win in six games. e Bulls only led by one point going into the fourth, but Augustin and Gibson had 20 of Chicago's 34 in the fourth.

''We talk about how we want to "nish games, and we were real strong coming out for the fourth,'' Chicago coach Tom ibodeau said. ''Our defense was strong, and our ball movement was good. Hitting the open guy makes a big difference.''

man said Saturday he didn’t anticipate making any moves in the "nal trading days, but he did end up moving prospect Brandon Pirri to theFlorida Panthers for dra picks on Sunday and acquired de‐fensemen David Rundblad and Mathieu Brisebois from the Phoenix Coyotes for a second-round dra pick on Monday.

“We were not looking to do anything to‐day,” Bowman said aer the deadline passed on Wednesday aernoon. “I talked over the weekend that we made our big move earlier when we got Kris Versteeg and we’ve made some other mi‐nor moves in between. We actually were excited to acquire David Rundblad yes‐terday, but we weren’t looking to do any‐thing else.

“With the way the cap situation is this year, every team is tight against the cap so in order to make moves you’re going to have trade money away, and we don’t have any players that we want to trade away. We’ve really accomplished a lot over the last couple of seasons with the group we have here, and we’re not look‐

ing to break it apart and try to bring in new players. If we can add to it, which we’ve been doing all year, by not trading away roster players from here that was always our objective.”

e Blackhawks did pull the trigger on a number of trades throughout this season which have given them NHL players. ey added Versteeg from the Panthers in November. ey traded for forward Peter Regin from the New York Islanders in February. Rundblad joined the Black‐hawks for practice on Wednesday.

Aside from the few new faces, the Black‐hawks are planning to make another run for the Stanley Cup with pretty much the same team they had last season. Nine‐teen players on this season’s team were part of last year’s Stanley Cup champi‐onship team.

Bowman said he believed his current team could repeat as Stanley Cup cham‐

pions.

“at’s what we’re always focused on,” Bowman said. “No. 1, short term, we have to "nish the season strong here. Can’t get ahead of yourselves because it’s a competitive division and conference we’re in. at’s where our focus is right now; can’t look too far down the road.

“ere are a lot of components to our team similar to a year ago. Some of the younger players are better now than a year ago, and that’s exciting to see. We haven’t had any guys drop off and lose their talent the last six months. We have a group that understands what it takes to

win, but you have to go out there and do it. We don’t take anything for granted. We expect to play hard next game and not get ahead of ourselves.”

Bowman said the Blackhawks weren’t in‐volved in talks for any of the bigger names at the deadline.

“No, we were never in any of that,” Bow‐

man said. “I always chuckle when I see the reports that we’re close to getting [some big names.] at’s the world we live in today. In order to do those things, you’d have to trade players away that are effective contributors to your team. Dif‐ferent this year with the salary cap being lower than it’s been in recent years. It causes you have to trade money to add money. We believe in our group here.”
