TO: All Members of the Davies Community FROM: Adam R. Flynn-Tabloff, Director DATE: October 30, 2020 RE: Full Distance Learning (Zoom Classes) – November 2 nd through November 9 th Since October 16 th , the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) has identified 11 cases of COVID-19 among members of the Davies community. Six of these cases were 10 th and 11 th grade students who were all close contacts of one infected individual. The remaining cases cannot be linked to exposures within the school. Given the number of cases over a rather short period of time among 10 th and 11 th graders, the likelihood that some of those in quarantine may become positive for COVID-19 (even if asymptomatic), and the fact that science suggests that there are likely asymptomatic cases among our school community – RIDOH has recommended that Davies take the following actions to “reset” in order to slow the spread of COVID-19: 1. All students will engage in full distance learning (Zoom classes) from November 2 nd through November 9 th . a. This pause in in-person learning will result in a ten-day period during which students should stay home – even if they are not officially on quarantine. This will ensure that any students who may have become infectious but asymptomatic as late as day 14 of quarantine are no longer infectious. b. Due to weekends, already scheduled Zoom days, and Election day – this move to full distance learning only results in three days transitioning from in-person instruction to distance learning. 2. It is highly recommended that all members of the Davies community schedule a COVID-19 test. Doing so will allow RIDOH to pinpoint positive but asymptomatic individuals so they may be isolated from the rest of the school community until they are no longer infectious. a. Testing can be scheduled by calling the K-12 Test Scheduling Service at 1-844-857- 1814. They are open 7 days a week from 7:30am to 9:30pm. 3. Davies will return to our regular partial (50%) operating schedule on November 10 th . Davies continues to follow all RIDOH guidance and we remain committed to acting in a thorough and transparent manner. The actions noted above are being taken to out of an abundance of caution to minimize the risk of exposure to COVID-19 among our school community.
