Basic functionality

Basic functionality Description

WinCC / OPC-Server

The WinCC OPC servers provide customer-specific OPC clients with data from the WinCC data

warehouse, e.g. process values or messages.

The WinCC OPC UA server is installed as Windows service and started automatically.

The WinCC OPC UA server supports only the communication profile

"UA-TCP UA-SC UA Binary". The used port number is adjustable.

"OPC Historical Access" enables access to archives and includes the services "Historical Data" and

"Alarms & Events".

The WinCC OPC UA server supports only the "Historical Data" service.

You can read and limitedly write with an OPC UA client the values of archive tags in the tag archives.

Depending on the configuration of the tag archive, the archive tag can contain either raw data or already

processed process values.

Runtime API

Runtime API describes the open programming interface of WinCC.

Via the API functions, you use the internal functions of WinCC in your own applications and access HMI tag

data or data in the archives.

Application

API functions are used in the following places:

Within WinCC: In user-defined C -functions and local C-scripts.

Outside of WinCC: In Windows applications created in the C/C++ programming language. To use Runtime

API in the C# or VB.Net programming languages, you must program a corresponding implementation.

Migration from WinCC V7

Migration

The next slide shows exactly the possible project migrations from WinCC V7.x to WinCC Professional.

To get a project WinCC Professional V15 by a migration the original project must be in version V7.4 SP1.

Instead, the license upgrade needs only one upgrade package from WinCC RT/RC V7.x to WinCC RT Prof. V15.

Earlier licenses (V4.x, V5.x, V6.x) cannot be upgraded directly to WinCC RT Prof. V15, and needs upgrade packages to

WinCC V7.

The package upgrades of WinCC RC/RT V7 are EXCLUSIVELY with RT Professional License.

The WinCC Professional Engineering License must be ordered separately if necessary.

WinCC differentiates between RT licenses (Runtime) and ES licenses (Configuration) as well as the number of tags.

RT licenses permit the operation of WinCC in runtime for an unlimited period of time.

With this license you can use up to 262 144 external tags and up to 500 archive tags in Runtime.

Engineering is not possible.
