Wind and Wave Forecast Services Wind and wave forecasts to support maritime operations and transports Accurate wind and wave forecasts are required to minimise risks and optimise efficiency of marine operations and transports. BMT ARGOSS provides highly detailed and accurate forecast information that allows our clients to anticipate changing weather conditions and adjust your planning when necessary. Our forecasts are appropriate for all industries that rely on accurate weather forecasts for their marine operations. E.g. LNG terminals, drilling, construction or salvage operations and of course shipping. Global coverage BMT ARGOSS has a 3rd generation wave model ( as shown above) running on a global grid as well as on several regional grids for hindcast and forecast purposes. In addition to the global model BMT ARGOSS currently runs regional models for the North Sea, the Arabian Gulf, the Red Sea, the Mediterranean, the Black Sea, the Caspian Sea and the Gulf of Aden. Data assimilation To increase the accuracy of our services our models are calibrated using wave height measurement data from satellites. To further improve the accuracy of the forecasts, the wind field data that are used to drive the wave model are corrected with satellite scatterometer measurements. Near shore and shallow water forecast services As waves approach shore lines or enter shallow water areas their behavior changes. To account for these changing conditions near shore forecast is required taking into account the local conditions, like depth and the coastline. BMT ARGOSS has developed an efficient way to transform offshore spectra that of near shore and shallow water locations. For complicated areas, where dedicated modelling is advisable regional models are set up using, for example, a SWAN model. The models are set up in such a way that the required level of detail is provided. To assure the accuracy of the model we can use local measurements to validate and when necessary calibrate the wave model. The local/ regional models can also be used to calculate hindcast datasets that can be used for design and planning purposes. Available forecast services Different types of operations require different types of forecasts. This is why BMT ARGOSS offers a variety of different forecasts services. Forecast services that can be provided include: Offshore forecasts Near shore and shallow water forecasts Route forecasts

Wind and Wave Forecast ServicesWind and wave forecasts to support maritime operations and transports

Accurate wind and wave forecasts are required to minimise risks and optimise efficiency of marine operations and transports.

Global coverage

BMT ARGOSS has a 3rd generation wave model ( as shown above) running on a global grid as well as on several regional grids for hindcast and forecastpurposes.

In addition to the global model BMT ARGOSS currently runs regional models for the North Sea, the Arabian Gulf, the Red Sea, the Mediterranean, the Black Sea, the Caspian Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

Data assimilation

To increase the accuracy of our services our models are calibrated using wave height measurement data from satellites.

To further improve the accuracy of the forecasts, the wind field data that are used to drive the wave model are corrected with satellite scatterometer measurements.

Near shore and shallow water forecast services

As waves approach shore lines or enter shallow water areas their behavior changes.

The local/regional models can also be used to calculate hindcast datasets that can be used for design and planning purposes.

Available forecast services

Different types of operations require different types of forecasts.

This is why BMT ARGOSS offers a variety of different forecasts services.

Forecast services that can be provided include:

• Offshore forecasts• Near shore and shallow

water forecasts• Route forecasts

BMT ARGOSS Secures New Weather Forecasting Contract in Java Sea

BMT ARGOSS secured a weather forecasting contract for a major oil company in The Java Sea. The Java Sea is one of the waters of the East Indian Archipelago and is bounded by the island of Borneo to the North, Sulawesi to the West, Java to the South and Sumatra to the East. It is a climatologically interesting area with a complex, monsoon driven weather pattern and a high frequency of thunderstorms. BMT ARGOSS’s expertise will be used to ensure the safe transfer of crews to and from offshore platforms and to optimise operability and minimise risks due to unexpected and unfavourable weather conditions during drilling operations.

The Java Sea contract will be supported by BMT ARGOSS’s MetOcean Weather Forecast and Emergency Response Centre which provides weather forecasts and emergency response services globally. The dedicated forecasts, issued by a team of experienced Maritime Meteorologists, are designed to help minimise weather-related downtime and risk.

The Weather Support Desk is available 24/7 by phone or email. In addition, the Meteorologists of BMT ARGOSS are qualified to provide on-site support of offshore operations.

Detailed wind and wave information is provided in a number of different formats depending on the requirements of the operation or transport

High resolution atmospheric andwave forecasts

In addition to providing forecaststhrough our global and local nearshore models, BMT ARGOSS alsoprovides forecasts using dedicatedatmospheric models.

BMT ARGOSS can set up atmosphericmodels with resolutions as fine as 1kilometer. Wind data from the WRFmodel can be used to drive dedicatedregional wave models, providing detailedforecast information for the area of interest.
