Recommended Best PracticesThis section provides a summary of recommended best practices for you to consider before you customize and deliver the engagements.Consideration Best PracticeUse engagement length to determine agenda and content

Based on the customer feedback and objections from the solution briefing, work with the customer to establish Envisioning Workshop topics and a session length (for example, one day or five days). Develop the Envisioning Workshop agenda before customizing slides.

Maintain the recommended presentation module structure

The order and structure of the Envisioning Workshop modules are designed to help you to work through the customer technology issues in a logical order. While the structure is significant, several of the modules may be removed or reduced to reflect the customer’s interests and the agreed agenda topics.

Emphasize discussions and whiteboard diagramming

The core portion of each presentation can be used to guide the conversation on a specific DDPS topic. Use the slide decks to discuss individual topics in detail. Experienced presenters generally feel that fewer slides and more interaction with the audience results in a higher value engagement.

Maintain visual consistency

The presentations are all formatted with a customized template. If you modify existing slides or add slides from other presentations, be sure to follow the template design and use graphical elements that complement the existing slides. Maintain overall consistency among presentation content to deliver a seamless, convincing presentation. Apply the same principles to the Word template documents.

Plan for presentation flexibility

Do not delete slides that you do not plan to present. If you hide them or move them to the end, you maintain flexibility to deal with unplanned topics. By using the slide navigation capabilities built into PowerPoint, you can easily jump to unplanned slides and continue a dynamic conversation.

9

Page 11: Windows and Office Deployment Planning Services Consultant ......  · Web viewWindows and Office Deployment Planning Services Consultant Guide. Windows and Office Deployment Planning

Windows and Office Deployment Planning Services Consultant Guide

Consideration Best PracticeUnhide supporting slides

Additional slides are included in a hidden state by default. When you move slides into the main section of the deck, be sure to unhide each slide. To do this quickly, switch to Slide Sorter view (click the “View” menu, then click “Slide Sorter”) and review all slides where the slide number appears inside a crossed-out box. Right-click a slide and select “Hide Slide” to toggle the Hide property on and off.

CONDUCT the EngagementThis section provides guidance for delivering the content that was developed in the previous section.

Windows and Office Deployment PlanningWhen delivering an engagement, it is important to construct the agenda ahead of time as outlined in the planning section. It is important to note, however, that you can customize the agenda to further meet your customer’s needs. Manage the customer’s expectations. Define a scope, agenda and deliverables that can be completed in the allotted time. Stay within the overall intent and guidelines of the Strategy Briefing, Envisioning Workshop and the

Upgrade Plan Engagement and meet the required outcomes (deliverables).Be aware that the customer will fill out an evaluation form; you must manage expectations and deliver as promised to have a satisfied client while meeting the required engagement outcomes.

One-day Engagement (Strategy Briefing Session)Strategy Briefing SessionThe Strategy Briefing Session covers the business drivers, deployment challenges, and risks behind the proposed solution. It provides a high-level view of the features and benefits of Desktop, the Office client suite, infrastructure optimization, and automation of deployment solutions.Sample Delivery ScheduleDay 1 Topic DescriptionMorning Introduction Using the introductions slides introduce yourself, and then ask everyone to

introduce themselves, state their role, and what they expect to get out of the session. Make a record of the attendees, their roles, and their expectations, and add these to the Recommendations document. Ensure that the key stakeholders and decision makers are present.

Windows and Office Feature Overview Session

Use the Windows and Office feature slide decks for presentation and discussion points. The purpose of this section is to brief the customer on the typical business value that each of the solutions presented can achieve. Record any additional key business value features that are required from the engagement.

Afternoon Problem Statement Development

This section reviews the findings of the DDPS - Pre-engagement questionnaire. A facilitated group discussion results in identifying a business problem statement that will become the focus of the Envisioning Workshop.

Solution Statement Development

Based on the problem statement, this section includes the development of a solution statement using Windows and Office capabilities to address the identified business problem.

Close Out Based on the solution statement and information you have gathered from the customer, identify Windows and Office business services required to create the solution.

Additional Deployment ResourcesWindows Deployment ToolsTo successfully deploy the Windows operating system and applications for your organization, it is essential that you know about the available tools to help with the process. In this topic, you will learn about the most commonly used tools for Windows deployment.Microsoft provides many tools, services, and solutions. These tools include Windows Deployment Services (WDS), the Volume Activation Management Tool (VAMT), the User State Migration Tool (USMT), Windows System Image Manager (Windows SIM), Windows Pre-installation Environment (Windows PE), and Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE). Keep in mind that these are just tools and not a complete solution on their own. It’s when you combine these tools with solutions like Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT)

Windows 10 deployment tools Windows Deployment with MDT Upgrade Windows with MDT or SCCM

Office Deployment ToolsMicrosoft Office is available as a traditional (MSI) Windows Installer package and through Office 365 referred to as Office Click-to-Run. There are multiple ways to deploy Office to users in an organization. The method that you choose depends on the type of Office (MSI or Click-to-Run) and specific requirements and characteristics of your organization. For example, a small organization that only has several dozen users might deploy and Office MSI package from a network share or simply choose to allow users to install the Click-to-Run Office from the Office 365 portal on their own. But a larger organization that has hundreds or thousands of users might use a software distribution product, such as Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager, to deploy Office, whether a traditional Office package or Office 365 Click-to-Run. Organizations may also take advantage of virtualization technologies, such as Remote Desktop Services and Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V), to deploy Office. There are many deployment resources available to help customers and partners determine the right deployment options for their environment; See Technical Resources above in this document

In an effort to streamline the deployment process for Office 2016 and Office 365 ProPlus, a GitHub repository has been created with a collection of scripts and other projects. The repository is meant to be a place for IT Pros to come and find solutions that will make tasks related to deploying and maintaining Office easier. All items in the master branch of the repository are tested and ready to use. Each script has a ReadMe file that explains how to use it. The main ReadMe has a list of the name and descriptions for all of the scripts in the repository. Office Deployment Scripts for IT Pros

Windows Identity ManagementYou can use the same management tools to manage all device types running Windows 10: desktops, laptops, tablets, and phones. Current management tools, such as Group Policy, Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI), Windows PowerShell scripts, Orchestrator runbooks, System Center tools, etc. will continue to work for Windows 10. Windows 10 fully supports and is fully aware of Azure Active Directory. Users want to be productive on all of their devices and they want their work environment to be available and consistent on and delivered to all of their devices. Enterprises will generally run in a hybrid model with both AD and Azure Active Directory, using on-prem AD as they have in the past and enhancing that value with new value from the cloud. Enterprise Management for Windows 10 Devices Windows 10 capabilities powered by Azure Active Directory:Self-provisioning of corporate-owned devices

With Windows 10, employees can configure a brand new device in the out-of-box experience, without IT involvement.

Use existing organizational accounts Employees can use their Azure AD account to login to Windows (the same account they use to sign into Office 365). These can be (and should be) kept in-sync with your on-premises AD accounts.

Automatic MDM enrollment Windows 10 PCs and tablets can be automatically enrolled in an organizations device management solution as part of joining them to Azure

AD. This will work with Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) solutions such as Microsoft Intune.

Single Sign-On to company resources in the cloud

Users will get single sign-on from the Windows desktop to apps and resources in the cloud, such as Office 365 and thousands of business applications that rely on Azure AD for authentication.

Single Sign-on on-premises Windows 10 PCs and tablets that are joined to Azure AD will also provide SSO to on-premises resources when connect to the corporate network and from anywhere with the Azure AD Application Proxy.

Enterprise-ready Windows store The Windows Store when it is available will support app acquisition and licensing with Azure AD accounts. Organizations will be able to volume-license apps and make them available to the users in their organization. This is then surfaced up in the Intune Company Portal.

Support for modern form factors Azure AD Join will work on devices that don't have the traditional domain join capabilities.

OS State roaming Things like OS settings, desktop wall paper, tile configuration, and websites will be synchronized across corporate-owned Azure AD joined devices.

Delivery CompletionThe Desktop Deployment Planning Services workshop is completed when you conduct the final presentation. This presentation should be attended by the Business Sponsor and the key stakeholders, with the following agenda: Review the project scope, goals, and discuss the workshop output–use the provided close-out

presentation workshop template. Gather feedback about the how the engagement was delivered and about this workshop. Discuss next steps and other follow-up activities.

The Findings & Recommendations document, as well as the other deliverables identified for the various engagement types, should be handed to the customer during this presentation. Any working session summaries should be provided within 1-2 days of completion of the engagement.
