B. Windows Phone 7.5

"Windows Phone 7.5" codename "Mango" was announced in February 2011 at the Mobile World Congress. The update was formally announced in New York on May 24, 2011, when Microsoft gave an in-depth preview of the update, shortly before which Steve Ballmer had disclosed that there would be over 500 features. Although the OS internally identifies itself as version 7.1, it is marketed as version 7.5 in all published materials intended for end-users.

Microsoft started rolling out Windows Phone 7.5 to both the United States[3] and International[4] markets on September 27, 2011. The first phones that came pre-loaded with Windows Phone 7.5 were released in the last quarter of 2011.

Previously released Windows Phone hardware is incapable of being upgraded to Windows Phone 8, due to changes in the kernel requirements and hardware specifications. However, Microsoft announced at the Windows Phone 8 announcement event that Windows Phone 7.x devices would receive a free upgrade to Windows Phone 7.8. Nokia's first flagship Windows Phone Lumia 900 has been updated to Windows Phone 7.8 update in several countries. The update includes some of the features present in Windows Phone 8, including the revised start screen and additional unspecified functionality.

Windows Phone 8 (codename Apollo) is the next generation of Windows Phone, as officially confirmed by MS at an MSDN seminar in August 2011 and previewed at Microsoft's 'sneak peek' at Windows Phone on June 20, 2012. Devices will be launched by four

companies, Nokia, Huawei, Samsung and HTC and others include Acer Lenovo and ZTE. All devices will be based on System on Chips from Qualcomm (Snapdragon S4 Plus). Current Windows Phone 7.x devices will not be able to run or update to Windows Phone 8 and new applications compiled specifically for Windows Phone 8 will not be made available for Windows Phone 7.x devices.

The GDR3/Update 3 update is possible to install on any Windows Phone with GDR2 by registering for a free Microsoft App Studio ID,[30] installing the certificate sent by email and lastly installing the Preview for Developers app[31] before checking for updates in the settings menu on Windows Phone. However, this may void the OEM and carrier warranty of the device.

Windows Phone adalah mobile OS yang dibuat dan dikembangkan oleh Microsoft yang sebelum sudah mempunyai OS mobile lain yakni Windows Mobile. Windows Phone merupakan adaptasi dari sistem operasi Windows 8 dengan konsep baru yang sebelumnya disebut Metro UI, tetapi kemudian menjadi simply modern. Ciri khas kotak-kotak pada layar home atau lebih dikenal dengan live tiles ini membuat Windows Phone terkesan simple dan dinamis. Sistem operasi Windows Phone varian pertama ini diumumkan awal tahu 2010 pada bulan kedua. Terdapat perubahan yang cukup banyak di update pertama OS milik Microsoft ini yang membawa beberapa perubahan terutama pada penggunaan aplikasi dan penambahan browser andalan Microsoft yakni Internet Explorer 9 yang sudah terintegrasi dengan layanan sosial media seperti Twitter dan akses Windows Live SkyDrive.

Varian OS Windows Phone selanjutnya dikenal dengan kode Tango untuk nomor versi sama dengan sebelumnya. Namun pada OS versi ini menuntut kebutuhan hardware lebih tinggi dari versi sebelumnya yang menjadikan ponsel-ponsel WP Mango turun harga. Fitur baru yang bisa dinikmati pada versi ini adalah kemampuan hotspot Wi-Fi dan flip to silence, tapi masih banyak fitur terbaru lainnya.

Sebelum Microsoft melakukan pengembangan besar pada OS Windows Phone (Windows Phone 8), mereka menyempatkan untuk mengupgrade WP 7.5 ke WP 7.8

yang pengembangannya masih menjadi perbincangan hangat kala itu. UI berubah dari tile yang berukuran wide dan medium pada versi sebelumnya, sekarang menjadi lebih variatif dengan ukuran small. Sekilas perbedaannya pada UI hanya itu saja, tapi dari aplikasi Microsoft pun menyediakan beberapa perubahan yang tentunya bermanfaat untuk smartphone Windows Phone agar lebih powerfull lagi.

Sekitar bulan Oktober 2012 lalu, pengembangan besar Microsoft pun diumumkan yakni versi terbaru dari OS mobilenya itu yang dikenal dengan Windows Phone 8. Perubahan besar-besaran dilakukan Microsoft, mulai dari UI (sekilas sama dengan Windows Phone 7.8), konektivitas, aplikasi, dukungan layanan, integrasi dengan akun live, fitur kamera yang disempurnakan, Windows Store App yang lebih nyaman dan banyak aplikasi, peningkatan resolusi layar, USB mass Strorage, NFC, Kid Corner, Bluetooth LE, dan masih banyak lagi.

Dengan dirilisnya OS Windows Phone 8 ini juga menggantikan arsitektur Windows CE keernel Windows NT, yang memudahkan aplikasi dikirim dari Windows 8 ke sebuah smartphone Windows Phone 8 yang dulunya harus menggunakan aplikasi Zune pada versi pendahulunya. Windows Phone 8 juga akan terus mendapatkan dukungan mulai dari Windows Phone 8 pertama hingga versi terbarunya karena Microsoft sekarang fokus pada WP 8 ini. Dengan demikian, mereka akan menghentikan dukungannya pada WP 7.8 ke bawah untuk menggantikan peran sebagai OS versi tunggal yakni WP 8.

Update diberikan dari Microsoft dan juga vendor yang memakai WP 8 itu sendiri. Sekarang kabar terhangat adalah dari Nokia dengan update Windows Phone mereka yang rutin mulai dari update Amber, GDR3, hingga yang terbaru yang disebut Black. Hal ini tentu membawa dampak positif karena update ini diperuntukkan semua ponsel WP Nokia yang mengadopsi OS Windows Phone 8.

4. Windows Mobile 6Windows Mobile 6 telah dirilis pada 12 Februari 2007 di 3GSM World Congress 2007. Muncul dalam tiga versi yang berbeda yaitu:1. Windows Mobile 6 Standard untuk Smartphone (ponsel tanpa touchscreens)2. Windows Mobile 6 Profesional untuk Pocket PC dengan fungsi telepon3. Windows Mobile 6 Classic for Pocket PC tanpa radio selular.Windows Mobile 6 didukung oleh Windows CE 5,0 (versi 5.2) dan ke Windows Live Exchange 2007 dan produk Windows Mobile 6 Standar yang ditawarkan pertama kali pada Orange’s SPV E650Fungsi Windows Mobile 6 ini sama dengan SistemOperasi untuk destop yang dibuat oleh windows yaitu windows Vista. 5. Windows Mobile 6.1Windows Mobile 6,1 diluncurkan 1 April 2008. Ini adalah pengembangan kecil dari Windows Mobile 6 yang sudah ada. Windows Mobile 6.1 membawa platform dengan kinerja berbagai perangkat tambahan. Seperti sebuah layar yang didesain ulang Home horisontal tegel yang berkembang di klik untuk menampilkan informasi lebih lanjut. Walaupun home adalah fitur layar hanya pada Windows Mobile edisi Standar. Fitur ini inexplicably kiri dari edisi Professional. Beberapa fitur tambahan lainnya seperti perbaikan Thread SMS, full page zoom di IE dan ‘Domain Daftar’ juga telah ditambahkan. Daftar domain adalah fungsi untuk menghubungkan ke perangkat System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008, sebuah produk untuk mengelola perangkat mobile. Ada perbedaan lainnya juga. Perbedaan yang paling menonjol untuk pengguna bahwa versi standar (seperti versi) masih membuat link otomatis untuk nomor telepon di Tugas dan Appointments, yang memungkinkan untuk dng mudah memangil (dan aman selama berkendara). Untuk beberapa alasan, versi Profesional yang telah dihilangkan fitur penting ini. Windows Mobile 6,1 juga meningkatkan efisiensi bandwidth dalam protokol push-email “ActiveSync” dari “upto 40%”, ini mengurangi penggunaan data.

6. Windows Mobile 6.5Awalnya dikonfirmasi oleh Steve Ballmer, versi 6,5 akan menjadi agak kecil yang ada upgrade ke Windows Mobile platform. Walaupun sebagai sebuah incremental update. Namun aka nada penambahan fitur baru. 

7. Windows Phone 7Kamis,22 Oktober 2009 lalu, Microsoft secara resmi meluncurkan Windows Phone. Windows Phone merupakan penerus dari Windows Mobile. Sejak versi 6.5 menjadi Windows Phone. Indonesia termasuk dalam 20 negara peluncuran Windows Phone ini.Windows Phone muncul dengan berbagai macam fitur-fitur baru seperti upgrade Windows Live yang dilengkapi feed dan berbagi foto (photo sharing) melalui Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, dan MySpace. Fitur Adobe Flash Lite juga sudah bisa dinikmati pada Internet Explorer Mobile-nya. Fitur office lainnya antara lain Microsoft Office Mobile, Outlook Mobile, My phone. Fitur My Phone memungkinkan pengguna untuk mem-backup data pengguna (Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, Text Message (SMS), Favorites, Photos, Videos, Music, Documents dan Storage Card).Beberapa smartphone yang sudah memakai Windows Phone antara lain Acer dengan model neoTouch, beTouch E200, beTouch E100, dan beTouch E101. Selain itu, Asus M20, LG GM730, LG Times, Samsung Omnia II, dan Samsung Omnia Pro juga sudah menggunakannya.
