Build Better and Broader Products

• Provide more flexible software applications & solutions-local or virtualized-without a performance difference

Meet Market Demand

• Better meet customer needs with ready-for-virtualization solutions and applications

Faster Time to Market

• Solutions developed on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 will result in fewer support calls and lower development costs

ISVs can increase sales and reduce development time by building applications & solutions for the virtualized environment on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.

• Provide lower-cost applications & solutions with Hyper-V Dynamic Memory (DM) that require fewer servers and/or less high-performance memory customizations that enable greater value and cost savings for customers.

• Server and client solutions can be developed that provide rich graphics (including 3D and Silverlight) whether the solution is deployed locally or by virtual machine.

• Customers are asking for virtualized applications & services: demonstrate know-how with applications developed or tested on the Windows Server 2008 R2 platform. With SP1, these apps are now even better with RemoteFX’s full-fidelity virtualization.

• Customers have a real choice with no fidelity difference between local deployment and virtualization.

• Not leveraging the latest technology in SP1 could mean missed chances with more customers now adopting the proven Windows Server 2008 R2 platform, now with SP1.

• Any past calls related to reduced functionality from a virtualized or hosted environment may be eliminated, and many other calls may also be reduced, based on the better performance and a full local-PC-like experience with RemoteFX.

• Any special development for virtualized environments is no longer necessary.

• Reduced development and support time means applications and solutions can be released to market earlier.

Grow The Business

• Increase oppty to implement solutions with Windows Server, Windows 7, and Virtualization

• Win more business with cost-effective solutions that require less hardware

Become a Trusted Advisor

• Meet customer demand for virtualization. Demonstrate expertise on the latest technology and provide a wider range of virtualization services

• Finish implementations faster

Reduce Management Costs

• Reduce outsourcing/support overhead

• Save money by reducing tier 1 service calls and tier 2/3 escalations

By creating new virtualization solutions on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, System Integrators have an opportunity to sell more services, win more business, and reduce

costs on the desktop and the datacenter

• Implement best-of-breed and cost-effective desktop-to-datacenter virtualization solutions:

•SP1 delivers high-fidelity desktop virtualization (VDI) with RemoteFX enabling a larger market/users for VDI

•Less costly Hyper-V solutions with Dynamic Memory (DM) management.

• Implement Application Virtualization to reduce application management costs.

•Migrate customers from non virtualized, power hungry systems (2000, 2003) to a highly dynamic and cost effective platform.

• Leverage the Windows 7 momentum to implement BranchCache and DirectAccess, features that are enabled by Windows Sever 2008 R2.

• Virtualization becomes an option for all customers. With RemoteFX users can get the same rich, graphical experience from a thin client as from a local desktop. Hyper-V is super-charged with Dynamic Memory Management. Application Virtualization is key to reducing costs.

• Better business impact with SP1 means you can spend more time with customers demonstrating the case for SP1–building both immediate and future opportunities on server and desktop.

• Server and/or desktop implementation services can be completed more quickly, since all past relevant hotfixes & security rollups are included in SP1 - both for Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7.

• Greater VM density and server consolidation, as well as improved reliability with SP1, helps reduce management and operational issues for the customer – resulting in fewer Tier 1 support calls and Tier 2/3 escalations, thus allowing more time for strategic and revenue-generating efforts.

• Help significantly reduce support costs by avoiding Tier 1 support calls and expensive 2/3 escalations can.

What is Windows 7 SP1?

• Builds on the solid foundation and proven benefits of Windows 7 RTM

• Does not introduce new features to Windows 7

What’s In It?

• Contains all updates already available on Windows Update and additional minor updates

• Reflects feedback from our customers and partners

• Supports virtualization enhancements for rich user experience in Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

Deployment Guidance

“But enterprises really don't have to wait for SP1 -- that's the old wisdom. The new wisdom is that it's already been through its battle-testing and this is the good one.”

WINDOWS SERVER 2008 R2

SITUATION TODAY • Difficult management of high-density VM sites

• Limited hardware resources per VMs

• Lack of unified virtualization architecture

• Limited VM client support

• Difficult end-to-end management

With virtualization, we will save about 50 percent of our annual energy budget for cooling and

electricity. Virtualization saves us on hardware and labor. We also save on software licensing fees.

And we can save money by creating and managing virtual test environments for some applications

with our development group. - LukOil Oil Company

“Although virtualization has been the buzz among technology providers, only 6% of enterprises have actually deployed virtualization on their networks, said Levine, citing a TWP Research report. That makes the other 94% a wide-open market.”

The Rise of the Virtual Machine and the Real Impact It Will Have

“We calculate that roughly 6% of new servers sold last year were virtualized and project that 7% of those sold this year will be virtualized and believe that less than 4% of the X86 server installed base has been virtualized to date.

REDUCE MANAGE RETHINK

Over time, however, the company expects to benefit from reduced power consumption and costs.

“Because of our size, we can realize significant gains by managing power more efficiently,” says

Buckingham. “The electricity billing in our data centers is based on metered power, and we can

reduce our monthly bills if we control power consumption with Windows Server 2008 R2.”

WINDOWS SERVER 2008 R2

SITUATION TODAY

Employee productivity has improved so much that he was able to defer hiring additional sales and

management personnel this year. “The $120,000 to $150,000 a year it would cost to fund these

positions now goes straight to our bottom line or gets distributed to current employees to help

preclude layoffs in the future. - Convergent Computing

SITUATION TODAY

Taking advantage of the BranchCache feature in Windows Server 2008 R2, we can spend $20,000

rather than $50,000 per year on bandwidth by postponing our expansion schedule.

WINDOWS SERVER 2008 R2 SITUATION TODAY

• Application and data access over WAN is slow in branch offices

• Slow connections hurt user productivity

• Improving network performance is expensive and difficult to implement

• Caches content downloaded from file and Web servers

• Users in the branch can quickly open files stored in the cache

• Frees up network bandwidth for other uses

Using the BranchCache™ features in Windows Server® 2008 R2 and Windows 7, CCO has simplified

remote connection to its network and speed the downloading of important files. It has cut costs by

eliminating its virtual private network and has seen a 43 percent savings in wide area network

(WAN) bandwidth. - Convergent Computing
