Since time immemorial wine has been an essential part of feeling good about the universe. For our ancestors it symbolised an end to the nomadic life, the transformation from hunter-gatherers to the sedentary world of pastoralists and agriculturists. It was an integral part of pagan religious rituals long before the Judeo-Christian traditions incorporated it in their liturgies.

It is therefore particularly apt that wine should be the subject and object of this auction: it has always been a measure and reflection of community. Those who produce it must stay long enough in one place to harvest the grapes and the leisure time to await the completion of the fermentation. They must have fixed abodes, families, homes, traditions. Wine is there when we celebrate, but it is also with us on the most solemn of occasions. For those of us fortunate enough to have easy access to it, it is part of our everyday life.

The annual Gately Rotary auction is the longest running charity wine sale in South Africa and the third longest annual auction in the country. Its very existence is a tribute to the generosity of the country’s producers, to the dedication of the members of the wine committee whose visits to the Cape wine-lands every year bring back such splendid plunder and to the citizens of East London who return every year to bid for these spoils.

Every bottle offered for sale at this auction is imbued with the best of the human spirit. However important the labour of those who grew the grapes and made the wine, who donated it to the auction and who bought it at this sale, it is vastly more important that we find ourselves united by our capacity to give and our capacity to share. This is something which wine teaches us: it is not a beverage for the solitary life.

Just as there are no bad wines (just bad bottles) there are some wines which are always, always good – and they are the bottles given generously to the auction and purchased in the same spirit.

As the Rotary Club of Gately gears up for its Annual Wine Auction in May, as in previous years, there has been a hive of activity in preparation for the day. This involves a large contingent of Club members who meet on a regular basis, drive down to the Cape Winelands to re-kindle contacts and make new friends with the wine industry - from marketers to winemakers who have been so generous with their donations over the past 28 years. Club President Jacqui Mauer – who is extremely grateful for these donations - only had kind words for the donors. She said: “The phenomenal support that this project has received for nearly three decades is astounding. This shows that the wine estates have the needs of the less-privileged communities of our society at heart. They have impacted lives tenfold and will continue to assist in so many areas that make a difference to everyday lives”.The Club, said Mauer, would not have the impact that it has: “without the Wine Estates’ unwavering support”.“We cannot neglect our very generous and mostly local East London bidders, at the auction, who open their hearts and wallets. Their generosity supports a number of charities, not just in their home town, but also back in the Winelands!”

ROTARY’S INVESTMENT IN THE FUTURE OF SOUTH AFRICAThe Rotary Club of Gately has a vision that is aligned with that of the Global Rotary Foundation by focusing on large “Quantum” projects which are sustainable and measurable.

Early Childhood Development is one of these projects where there is collaboration with a number of local clubs and clubs from the USA. Together with the Rotary Foundation, over R3.8 million has been committed to the training and education of ECD practitioners and to the development of their creches so that they can change the lives of thousands of young children on an annual

basis. Teaching the teachers and helping them to build sustainable creches for children from 18 months to 6 years old has a powerful multiplier effect during the most formative years of any child’s development. Funds are also made available for capacity building and mentoring within these ECD Centres, in conjunction with positive parenting courses, educational toys, much-needed furniture and equipment.

Another project that is impacting lives and making inroads in our society is the youth leadership programme aptly called “FIND YOUR VOICE” - a Young Adult Leadership Development Programme, for ages 20-30, where the focus is to cultivate leaders with integrity, who can build positive relationships and are active citizens, willing to put service above self. We focus on practical leadership skills and the art of using one’s leadership voice appropriately and effectively. There is a strong emphasis on personal growth, purpose, reflection and group engagement. Research is also a major component of the programme, which culminates in a final presentation by the group.

The Club runs a project for the benefit of abused women and children for The Carmel Curlewis Trust, in which the services of Small Projects Foundation are employed. The aim here is to supply Rape Comfort Packs for the Masimanyane Women’s Support Centre and Safety Nets

for vulnerable & abused women & children at 30 clinics and schools in the OR Tambo District Municipality.This Project has changed the lives of 9000 girls and young women, 3392 boys and girls within the ages of 10-14, through providing information and support on gender-based violence, places were they can get help & support and access to services. It has trained and supported 595 teen parents to care for their children and trained another 523 parents and their children in positive parenting (children with behaviour or abuse problems). Another 101 abused girl children and their parents have been supported with therapy, while 100 boys and their parents were assisted with child protection therapy. A total of 58 schools have received the documentation and are using it regularly.

In addition, 31 clinics have been supported with documents and training of their nurses, clinic committees and community health workers. Local social workers are now following up hundreds of cases of abuse and providing support and care at schools, clinics and homes.

All funds raised are held in Trust, while a Board of Trustees acts as custodians of these funds and oversees the distribution to the worthy recipients in line with the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self”.

Apart from producing wines renowned and appreciated here at home and the world over, wine estates in the Cape have also been playing their social responsibility role in changing the lives of the poor and underprivileged in our communities.

For the past 28 years the Rotary Club of Gately, located in East London, has collected wines throughout the Cape Winelands – to be auctioned off for the benefit of charitable causes. Through the kindness of these Wine Estates, millions of Rands have been raised over the years for these worthy causes. Last year alone, the 2018 Gately Rotary Wine Auction raised just over R500 000 for disbursement via its projects.

As the Rotary Club of Gately is located in East London, the majority of the beneficiaries are based in the City and its immediate area. Notwithstanding this, the Club has endeavoured to support charities and organisations in the wine region as a means of showing appreciation for the wines that get donated each year. Organisations in the Winelands which have recently benefited are Pebbles Foundation, Die Herberg Kinderhuis, The Darling Trust, Hemmel-en-Aarde Pre-school and The Drakenstein Palliative Hospice. In an effort to ensure that the funds are spread throughout the winelands, the members who collect the wines have engaged with donor Estates to establish a list of organisations that the Estates support. Each year different charities in the wine regions will be supported.

To honour those generous wine estates that have been supporting us for between 15 and 20 (or more) years, the Rotary Club of Gately organized a Charity Wine Auction Awards Evening. This prestigious but informal awards evening was held at the beautiful Beyerskloof Estate on the 18th March 2019. The event was well attended and enjoyed with the most stunning wines from the various estates, delicious canapés from the Beyerskloof kitchen and Flammekueche prepared by Chef Marc Friederich. Beneficiaries from the winelands and wine makers met and socialised in a very relaxed setting. Rtn. Mark Wiehahn, also the organizer of the event, took on the MC role for the evening. Rtn. Keith Menday one of the original “Collection Team” members spoke about the early days of the project and how it has grown to what we see today. Rtn. and Wine Auction Committee Convenor Eugene McNamara also gave a heartfelt thank you to all the winemakers for their generosity over so many years enabling the Gately Rotary Club to support so many and varied beneficiaries. A short video presentation by Rtn. Butch Coetzee was shown, highlighting the various projects that the club is involved in. This was followed by beautifully framed certificates of appreciation being handed over to the worthy recipients.

A spontaneous from the heart speech was made by Trevor Strydom from the Audacia Wine Estate who said; “I must admit that I am a little embarrassed. The one thing in life that you cannot put a value to is time and having seen what this collection team and club has done, by giving so much of their time for these charities, makes one embarrassed in not having given more, so we will definitely be supporting you more in the future” This impromptu speech left a little lump in most throats. The Gately Rotary club is indeed proud of the relationship that has been built with so many fine Wine Estates over the years.

In 1918 in the wake of the great flu epidemic, an orphanage, Die Herberg, was built by the Robertson community for children left orphaned and destitute. In 2003 vines were planted on the orphanage grounds by the same community. All planting material, soil preparation and irrigation were donated. After years of carefully tending the vines, the first wine from the Herberg’s vineyard was finally made in 2008. Made by the team at Springfield Estate, who offered their cellar and services free of charge, the resulting red blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon was made using only natural yeast and uncrushed, unpressed grapes, resulting in a beautifully complex wine with notes of cassis and red fruits, complemented by velvety tannins.

Many people wonder why the name Thunderchild was chosen for the wine, once it was ready to share with the world. Storms are beautiful things – they hold so much energy, so much potential. A storm can bring destruction and devastation, yet it can bring new life and new beginnings as well, if experienced from a safe place. The lives of the children of the Herberg Children’s home have been characterized by dark, heavy clouds on the horizon – the threat of loss and hardship ever present. In a storm, one takes shelter in safe houses – buildings with solid foundations, secure roofs and watertight windows.

The Thunderchild project aims to provide this same sense of security and safety for the children living in the home – a place of comfort in a life often darkened by clouds of thunder. This is how inspiration for the name “Thunderchild” came about, a name that encapsulates the often fragile balance between hope and destruction for these children.

The Thunderchild wines are sold in aid of the children, who are today no longer all orphans but mainly from broken homes. One hundred percent of the profit is donated to the children. (See Lot No. 49 - SPRINGFIELD 2)

Only true audited costs are renumerated. Time and effort cannot be recompensed. The government subsidises more or less 48% of the monthly expenses of every child in the home. The rest of the expenses must be fundraised by the home on a monthly basis. The profit of the wine sales will benefit the income of the home to make it possible to cater for the care needs of each child.

Palliative care is the holistic care for patients and their families. At Hospice we provide a professional palliative care clinical approach to active symptom management through therapies that positively influence the course of illness. Palliative care helps a person live well for longer.Based in Paarl and started in 1991, Drakenstein Palliative Hospice was opened to provide quality palliative care to people with life limiting and life threatening illness in support of Quality in life and Dignity in death.

Butterfly House, our community resource centre, was built in Fairyland in 2008 (through the generous donation by Ivar Koteng and Paarl Round Table). Fairyland is a previous informal settlement, 10km outside of Paarl. The founding vision of Butterfly House was to address and expand the holistic care practices provided by Drakenstein Palliative Hospice (DPH)

A Safe SpaceWe provide daily meals from our kitchen, access to school stationery, personal hygiene needs and transport. We provide showers and hygiene facilities, homework spaces, facilitation and recreation spaces all in a safe environment.

Holistic CareOur interdisciplinary health and wellness team (TAC: Team Around the Child) provide psychosocial and physical care and support for patients, vulnerable community children and their families, living with life threatening illness or life limiting conditions with an expectation of living.

Skills & Support programsThese are programs that create a supportive, safe learning environment where youth and children are exposed to and can experiment with skills to optimally manage academic demands, health care concerns, social relationships and the future world of work.

DRAKENSTEIN PALLIATIVE HOSPICEBUTTERFLY HOUSE STORIESMarius AJ Barends

When Butterfly House was being built in 2008, Marius was always on the building site. He was an 8 year old boy, eager to help, but very shy. He was actively part of the programmes and has witnessed the changes and growth, received a cooked meal every day, in exchange for looking after the garden during school holidays. We helped with his school uniform, he did his homework at Butterfly House and used the computer centre for projects.

In 2017 Marius was the head boy of his school. This year he is in college and assisting with the programmes in the afternoons and evenings. He is running his own group on a Wednesday and attends Butterfly House daily to assist the facilitators, receive a meal from the kitchen and pocket money. Marius is a Butterfly House star!

The Hemel-en-Aarde Valley Pre-school, situated on Hamilton Russell Vineyards, is the only registered Early Childhood Development Centre in the agricultural area between Hermanus and Caledon. It is a project run for the farm community in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley and caters for less privileged children from the area and surrounding farms. The School is a registered NPO and also has a Tax Exemption in place. We are extremely proud to be part of the education of these children. Children who receive quality early childhood development are significantly more likely to grow up to be productive and constructive citizens of the world. There is now widespread consensus that investing in early childhood development services has a far higher return on spending than more traditional attempts to address poverty and inequality. We have recently started a lunch and snack programme for the children to assist with their nutritional intake, partnering with our sponsors Woolworths Hermanus and The Lunch Box Fund. Whether or not children are well-nourished during their first years of life can have a profound effect on their health status, as well as their ability to learn, communicate, think analytically, socialize effectively and adapt to new environments and people. Good nutrition is the first line of defence against numerous childhood diseases, which can leave their mark on a child for life.

6 x Audacia Rooibos wooded Shiraz 2014This wine also has no sulphites or preservatives added and is matured in rooibos and honeybush wood. Aromas of buchu and rooibos. This wine shows a slight smokiness with plum and cherry flavours.

18 x Audacia “The Code Breaker” 2013A characterful and unusual Merlot. This wine has not been pasteurised and none of the legally allowable sulphite additives have been used in making it. Aromas of mint and lavender with succulent mulberry fruit flavours.

6 x Cabernet Sauvignon (no sulphites added)This red is also made using rooibos and honeybush wood as part of the winemaking process. Very different with Christmas pudding, marzipan and liquorice aromas with delicious soft fruit flavours.

12 x Tria Corda 2014Flagship red blend from this cellar. An elegant barrel fermented blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Full bodied wine with ripe tannins, rich deep cassis. Raspberry fruit and a touch of spice and minerality.

6 x Overgaauw Merlot 2017A medium bodied wine displaying floral, rich black cherry and raspberry aromas, with the fruit following through onto the palate. Smooth tannins ensure a lingering complexity.

6 x Overgaauw Cape Vintage 1998Full ripe Portuguese varieties were used to create this complex, smooth rich wine, fortified with brandy spirit and aged for 2 years in old 40 000 litre traditional pipe casks.

6 x Babiana 2014This is a blend of Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Grenache Blanc and Viognier. It displays a complex nose of soft fruit and spicy richness. Flavours of sweet wild honey, peach blossom, pineapple and cashew nuts follow. Matured in oak which is seamlessly integrated and smooth.

6 x Cabernet Sauvignon 2013Top red from this long time supporter of our auction. The wine shows fruity spice and blackberry flavours.

6 x Shiraz 2014This wine shows velvety spicy flavours. A touch of oak adds complexity.

2 x Rouge 2016This is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Petit Verdot. Deep purple in colour, this wine displays berry and mocha aromas reminiscent of crushed red fruits and has a long elegant finish.

2 x Syrah 2015This wine was hand harvested from 13 year old vines and fruit was hand sorted from the cellar. Youthful in appearance, on the nose there are generous amounts of violets, black fruits, pepper and spice. The palate displays some blackcurrant notes and yet tannins remain fresh and elegant in a well rounded and polished profile.

2 x Little Rock Blanc 2016This is a blend of Semillon, Viognier, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. This wine shows citrus and tropical aromas of papaya and lemon grass on the nose with a crisp lively finish.

2 x Cabernet Sauvignon 2015Ruby red with youthful purple hues. This wine displays an array of cassis, plum and cigar box neatly integrated with layers of black fruits.

2 x Chardonnay 2017This wine displays flinty, mineral and white stone fruit characteristics on the nose. There are hints of citrus and pear on the palate with a refreshing and long finish.

2 x Sauvignon Blanc 2018This wine shows pale straw colour with green tinges. A melange of tropical fruit characters on the nose and a lively palate with peach, mango and limes with a fresh citrus finish.

2 x La Bri Syrah 2015This refined Franchhoek Syrah is co-fermented with 5% Viognier. It is made in a light, floral, sappy style with lots of perfume and acidity, a hint of woodspice and berry fruit sweetness. Tim Atkin 90 points and gold Michaelangelo award

2 x Affinity 2015This is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The wine shows a beautiful ink black colour. An exceptionally complex wine with smokey spice, cherry tobacco and hints of cedar oak on the nose. A rich full palate with firm tannins and lingering black fruit juiciness.

1 x Chardonnay 2017This wine displays golden straw coloured hues with an energetic lime sparkle. On the nose boisterous notes of citrus with undertones of almond and chalkiness. On the palate lemon and lime notes with a long dry finish.

1 x Double Door White 2017This is a blend of Roussane, Chardonnay, Viognier and Semillon. Succulent, bright stone fruit mingles with spice and nutty flavours from 50% oaking.

GARY KLINKRADTLOT No. 9 LIFESTYLE

Gary was born in 1968 and is a Chartered Accountant by profession, practising in East London. He is married to Karen Klinkradt and has 2 children.

He started painting seriously in 2003 and has had 3 major exhibitions and also numerous representations in other exhibitions. Gary represented the Eastern Cape at the 2008 Grahamstown Arts Festival as one of South Africa’s most up and coming artists. His art is becoming highly sought after and can be found throughout South Africa and parts of the World.

He is the son of Aubrey Klinkradt, who is also an artist and is the son-in-law of the late well known, East London Artist, Danie Van Niekerk.

Gary is also a Bonsai artist and has an extensive collection of Bonsai trees and was chairman of the Border Bonsai Club for many years.

He truly loves to paint thick impasto paintings, mainly with a pallete knife. His favoured medium is oil paint.

6 x Chardonnay Barrel Reserve 2014This is a classic barrel fermented wine made from this noble variety. Further maturation in French oak gives this wine a suppleness on the palate balanced with citrus zest.

6 x White Pinotage 2017Unusual white wine made from red Pinotage grapes. Whole bunch pressing prevented the juice from obtaining colour from the skins. Barrel fermented and matured for eleven months gives this wine a creamy, nutty character to balance the tropical fruit and banana flavours.

3 x Cabernet Sauvignon 2012This wine reflects the age mobility of Cabernet Sauvignon. Matured in French oak and in bottle for up to 5 years before release. This culminates in a wine that is structured, well balanced and ready for enjoyment.

6 x Mellasat Tempranillo 2016This variety is little known to South African vineyards but one that is fast enjoying an enhanced reputation in the Paarl region. Savoury in character, this wine was matured in French and American oak for 18 months with aromas of cigar box and marinated cherry with blackberry flavours on the palate.

We welcome this Paarl cellar to the auction.

A rich and full bodied mouthfeel leads to an extended aftertaste with hints of tangerine.

2 x Red Blend 2017This is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The vibrant red fruit of Cabernet Sauvignon combines with the plum and vanilla undertones of Merlot. Hints of tobacco and green pepper from the Cabernet Franc round out a complex nose. The palate is abundant with blackberry fruit, mint and dark chocolate.

6 x Big Red Magnums 2018In 2000 a group of winemakers who love surfing held a contest at Onrus Rivier near Hermanus. The event is now known as “The Vintners Surf Classic” and has grown in stature. The entry fee to participate in the Vintners Surf Classic is five litres of wine. The various batches are then blended and bottled in 1.5 L Magnums of “Big Red” for the contestants, sponsors and charity fundraising. The individual components for this 4 star Platter wine were donated by 25 surfing Vintners. It is a blend of Shiraz, Cabernet and Pinotage. The costs of the wine have been covered by the winemakers, the barrel suppliers and the packaging suppliers so that the entire income from the sale of Big Red will be donated to Surf for Life which is a charity to assist various communities through surfing and fundraising events. The successful purchaser of this lot will make a significant contribution to a deserving and well run charity. Wine made at Grangehurst Winery.

6 x The Work of Time 2012This is a Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The grapes were fermented whole with native yeasts and left for 5 weeks on their skins. The wine was then barrel aged for 2 years followed by 4 years of bottle maturation. This wine, rich, classic and complex truly is a work of time.

2 x Mêthode Ancienne Cabernet Sauvignon, The Lost VintageGately Rotary is truly honoured to have this wine on the auction for the first time. Something for the true wine connoisseur.

12 x Thunderchild In 1918 in the wake of the great flu epidemic, an orphanage, Die Herberg, was built by the Robertson community for children left orphaned and destitute. In 2003 vines were planted on the orphanage grounds by the same community. All planting material, soil preparation and irrigation were donated. This blend is made for free by sympathetic cellars and sold in aid of the children, who are today no longer all orphans but mainly from broken homes. One hundred percent of the profit is donated to the children. Only true audited costs are remunerated. Time and effort cannot be recompensed. The government subsidises more or less 48% of the monthly expenses of every child in the home. The rest of the expenses must be fundraised by the home on a monthly basis. The profit of the wine sales will benefit the income of the home to make it possible to cater for the care needs of each child.

2 x Magnums Chocolate Block 2017 This wine which has developed a cult following in South Africa is a blend of Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon and Viognier. From Swartland vineyards. The nose offers a brooding compote of dark fruit with savoury whiffs of cured meat, black olives and cigar box. The palate shows red and dark berry fruit with flavours of ripe, red plums, blueberries and black cherries. Blackberries and liquorice linger in the mouth with hints of dark chocolate and sweet tobacco.

This cellar has been generously donating to this auction for many years and consistently produces outstanding Shiraz.

6 x Krone Borealis Vintage Cuvee Brut 2017This is a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. This wine has aromas of lemon and orange peel underscored by hints of minerality evoking crushed oyster shell and a light biscuity character. On the palate juicy pineapple, fresh yellow apple and salted caramel flavours come to the fore. The mousse is fine, persistent with a refreshing crisp finish.

6 x Jacques Bruèue Brut ReserveFruit driven and beautifully poised. Aromas of citrus. Rich creamy flavours with a lively mousse which awakens the palate. Good combination of fruitiness and yeastiness. From Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. The palate has both intensity and delicacy with a crisp and lingering finish.

12 x Giorgio 2015This is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot and is matured for 18 months in new and second fill French oak barrels. The bouquet has hints of blueberries, cherries, violets, tobacco and spicy cedar wood. The palate is opulent with a generous lingering after taste.

6 x Elevation 393 2009This is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet Franc. Medium deep red colour. Complex range of aromas from smokey blackberry, fruitcake, cinnamon and spice. Already good firm structure with dense fine tannins and rich complex fruit.

Made by David Trafford, winemaker at De Trafford and from an exciting new vineyard between the tiny Hamlet of Malgas and Cape Infanta, at the mouth of the Breede River.

3 x Sijnn White 2017Bright gold straw in colour. Lovely nose of passion fruit, peach, lemon, nutty honey and a little salty fennel. Vibrant, zesty palate with piercing citrus, passion fruit and peach with dusty spice. Ideal on its own or with fish and seafood.

3 x Sijnn Red 2015Deep red colour. On the nose lovely fresh dark wild berry with liquorice / fennel. Dense, juicy fruit palate with concentrated structure and a long dry silky finish.

12 x Chenin Blanc 2017This layered, elegant wine is crafted from old Swartland bush vines hand picked and hand sorted grapes, gently whole bunch pressed. Ten months of aging in french oak barrels and natural fermentation contribute to its delicate nature. The winemaker is Jocelyn Hogan Wilson an ex Clarendon School pupil who has made a name for herself as a top young winemaker.

3 x Nine Yards Chardonnay 2016 This wine is partially wild yeast fermented and matured “sur-lie” for 11 months in oak barriques. Flavours of butterscotch, spicy cloves and limey citrus are balanced by a full rich mouthfeel and a toasty oak finish.

5 x Cold Fact Sauvignon Blanc 2018It is a cold fact that the technique of searching for and crushing the ripest Sauvignon Blanc grapes and chilling them overnight on the skins extracts and intensifies the tropical flavours of this highly aromatic grape variety.

6 x Goose Wines - Unwooded Chardonnay 2018. This wine offers a refined balance of full flavours of peach and pineapple with hints of melon and lemon blossom on the nose. An abundance of these vibrant fresh fruits on the palate with a cool crisp finish. An unwooded and delicious easy drinking wine.

A superb collection of wines from the 7 Chairs range produced at this Franschhoek cellar packaged in a classy wooden casket. This lot consists of:

2 x Semillon 2016Aromas of grapefruit, chamomile and apple blossom and whiffs of exotic spice. The floral character on the nose follows through onto a richly textured palate showing yellow peach, pear and nectarine against a backdrop of fresh mandarin and green fig flavours with integrated acidity and a fully body.

2 x Franschhoek Cabernet Sauvignon 2016Aromas of black and blueberry and hints of cigar box and tobacco spiciness. The palate is exceptionally full and round with cassis, blackcurrant and cedarwood of the nose following through with notes of pencil shavings and cloves. Perfect acidity balances the dark berry fruit on a rich palate suggesting significant aging potential. The finish is smooth and complex.

3 x Syrah 2016Aromas of dark berry fruit, black olives, perfume and spice. On the palate intense notes of all spice, liquorice and black pepper. The wine is savoury with integrated acidity and firm tannins offering structure and maturation potential.

2 x Noble Late HarvestSemillon botrytis dessert wine from single certified organic blocks stuns with intense stone fruit, honey and ginger. Sugar balanced by pin point acidity.

3 x Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon 2016Aromas of red currant, black cherry and red plum with whiffs of fynbos. These aromas follow through onto the palate with flavours of youngberry and notes of lead pencil, tobacco and tea leaf. Vibrant berry fruit persists on a clean focused finish.

This cellar has generously supported this auction for many years. This is the 27th vintage of this flagship blended red. It is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot and shows opulent, full bodied concentration of blackberries with spicy supporting flavours, polished tannins and a lingering finish.
